AFCR&D went in to Tuesday night's game at Northampton Sileby Rangers needing only a point or for Wisbech Town to fail to win their game at PNS, and while it turns out that the latter happened it was inconsequential. Diamonds ran out 4-1 winners on the best surface in the league, and against the club that pipped us to the UCL Div 1 title 2 seasons ago. An appropriate place to win the title.

The next question which will be answered over the coming weeks is which division we are to be allocated in to at step 4. For now though, I'm just enjoying having won the league with a couple of games to spare.

Southern League Div 1 Central, surely? Shame Klattering won't be there.

You would thing, but take a look at the projection spreadsheet...

According to this we are the most northern club remaining outside the NPL. If Bedworth, Rugby or Daventry got promoted from the SLD1C playoffs instead of Royston Town there is a reasonably high chance we could be placed in the NPLD1S instead.

There is the whole mess of reprieves and potential extra promotions from step 5 to be considered still! Doesn't help us that the Northern League are not promoting a team again.

As for Kettering being there. Well as things stand neither team could host and police that fixture sufficiently at our current locations.

First game I ever attended was Bristol City vs Rushden and Diamonds - good to see they're back on the up.

Congratulations.

Out of interest Jemfy what were your attendances like before you closed down and what are they like now?

About 900-1000 before. 500-600 now. We seem to be a rare case of a phoenix side where the attendances are still lower. Too many factors to speculate as to why really.

I fully expect Rushden & Diamonds to be challenging for another promotion. Step 5 leagues seem so difficult to get out of with only one team up.
