Are Brighton and Birmingham the real deal this season, or will they fade away ?

I like Chrissie H...but ~ always a but ~ his over-cautious-gene, cost Blues advancement in the Europa League.
As the sole representative of the Championship, he didn't do the 'politics' of getting out of the Group Stage
~ he played cautious as a trump card and got blind-sided by the perenial Brugge's of the competition who walked a 0-0 to keep him out.
Likewise in the play-offs, over-cautious and paid the penalty.

The Wolves result may bring out his DNA, so be prepared ~ I hope you go up, because you have the financial backing to give it a good shot.
Like that other team that keeps insinuating itself into this thread about "Brighton & Blues" ~ :bg:

Chrissie is a good manager imo ~ I loved him at Blues ~ but ~ always a but ~ he is a 'belt and braces' guy.

imo.

Hmm, if we'd actually lost yesterday I might've been interested to see how we'd react in our next game but we're still unbeaten and picking up points so there's nothing to 'bounce-back' from or force this cautious-gene into action yet I wouldn't say. It's when we do suffer a noticeable dip, which we will because it's the Championship, that'll show us whether we (and he) have got what it takes. Likewise losing any key players for more than a game or two.

October is typically a shit month for us, so could go some way to defining whether it's just been a great start or we're actual genuine contenders to go up - in our own fans' minds at least.

As a side note LA, I keep expecting you to be a Norwich fan with that username. Oh, and Forever Changes is all-time favourite of mine.

The other thing that used to drive me insane about CH was he never used to use his subs. I once heard a quote from Alex Ferguson that with three subs you've got three chances to change a game and he always made sure he used all three. Hughton would almost never make a sub before 80min unless there was an injury, it was like he couldn't admit that he may have left a better option on the bench.

That said I did like the fella, consummate pro during a rocky period for the club.

The mighty Rams!!!
Clough had a sub policy exactly the same at Derby. He wanted to keep faith with the starting eleven but sometimes it came across as stubborn.

I hope they do go up, but it'll probably be some boring team like Dull City.

Now that he's playing up front he's doing a lot better than last season when he stuck out wide in midfield. He did a good job for the team left mid last season until his injury. Can't argue with his attitude that's for sure. Hopefully he can start to chip in with a few goals.

Yeah, always like-for-like subs as well which meant it was very rare a substitute actually had any impact. We went 30+ games without a substitute scoring (not sure how that compares with others but it seems a lot).

Another Aside:
Delia's half-time rant yes ~~ but it also comes from Spike Milligan as his pun-ridden bobby in Q5 ~~
~~ "Irish Stew in the name of the law" etc.
Outside The Beatles ~~~ Nothing else but Arthur Lee {RIP}, in music, for me ~~ saw him and Baby Lemonade as the 'new' Love at Glastonbury, with the Swedish orchestra. A memory that will never leave me.:hypo:
And beating the Gooners in the League Cup Final 2011.:bg1:

I actually like Norwich, Delia and Chrissie H ~ ~ I only dislike Leeds' fans and the Whitton Historians.
Never hate any footie fan.

I think most of Brighton's wins are by one goal Mr C.~ correct me if I'm wrong.
Chrissie has entered a phase where the belt is tigthened and the braces not yet clipped on~~~
~~ but as us Chrissie knowers recognise
~~ there is no need for this.
He had the players at Blues to get through the Europa, had the players at Norwich to finnish higher
~ imo ~
he is his own worst enemy when his skill as a manager gives him stage-fright, then he tries to protect what he has when he could go storming on.

I do love that man, I just wish someone would take him out and get him drunk one night, he could achieve much more if he believed in himself and took a risk now and again ~ obviously imo ~ and I do want Brighton up, automatically because he will stall at a play-off.

Meanwhile, back to the thread.....

An Aside:
Whilst being found out for a small and cheap squad, two injuries and we lose to the bottom club.
We'll need horshoes in our gloves to punch up again :bg1:
After we lost to Viler by one goal in the League Cup, "Tactics-Tim" said he'd planned it that way, to play two different halves.
Rowett was asked on Radio if he agreed:
Rowett: "He planned to get his team booed off at half time?"
...thinking mic was off, he asked the reporter, Ross, if it was true Sherwood said that.
Ross said yes...Rowett.... "F**** me*

I've just got back from Bolton (FUCKING M6 :bang:) whilst we rode our luck a fair bit in the second half we should of been out of sight by half time. We exude confidence at the moment, on the ball and going forward we look frightening at times, whilst at the back he's somehow managed to cobble together a solid looking unit from a sum of parts most teams wouldn't have given you fifty pence for!!!

I still think a higher mid-table with a possible play off push would be extraordinary achievement, if/when a few injuries come we've not got a huge amount of depth. But for now it's fucking great going and watching up play on the front foot without fear.

Now pass me a beer!!! :hesk:
