I think i've become an old man supporter. I just turned 30 and I think it happened automatically. It used to be that I would be excited about new Premier League seasons. Now I find myself complaining and whinging about how nobody's a real man anymore and that the passion is gone. I miss the games descending into chaos, I miss Roy Keane vs Patrick Vieira, I miss the intensity of the grounds. I miss Diaby kicking John Terry in the face.

Getting old.

I'm nearly a decade older than you and I'm not like that. Football has evolved into a sanitarised commercial game now for good or ill, so be it, its still entertaining just in a different way. The only thing that annoys me now is all the fluff around the games; who's been saying something daft on Twitter, or Jack Wilshere has a fag and theses are written on it, and the constant self-satisfied feeling with Sky and its PL product; and the lack of patience from the social media generation who think they can all do a better job. Thats an aside though as on the pitch the game is as healthy as its ever been.

I'm not a fan of corporations and countries buying clubs to promote their brands and reputation. PSG, City Group and the Red Bull teams are things that make me hate the game. I wonder if we'll see more corporations play games against each other in the future, McDonald's vs KFC could be a tasty affair.

Other than that I still love it. It is sanitised but that doesn't ruin my enjoyment of the game. I only actually watch the matches, I don't watch the build ups or the analysis after.

I'm the same, even if its for a team I support as the points they make are usually ill-informed anyway even if they are ex-players of that club. Don't bother with the half time nonsense either.

Absolutely my opinion, too. Actually we have such a Red Bull team promoted to the Bundesliga. An absolute disgrace. The Red Bull Company has "bought" a 5th League Club (SSV Markkranstädt(Leipzig)) in 2009 and could start in the 5th League and renamed the club to Red Bull Leipzig (later it has to be renamed again in RasenBallsport Leipzig, RB Leipzig, but the initials and the Logo are still a clear indication for Red Bull). I really hate this. They marched through the Leagues with the money of Red Bull and are now in the 1.Bundesliga. And the Red Bull Salzburg Club in Austria, which is "the Original" has to send players to the German Branch because the German Bundesliga is more important to the Company the the Austrian Bundesliga.

Further I hate how foreign Oligarchs, Sheikhs, Asian Investors or American Companies are buying english football clubs and see this as an "investment".
And I hate the Group stages of the European Club competitions.

But apart from that I still love the game :D

If you like your nostalgia, West Hams fans continual thuggery gives a glimpse into how the game used to be.

I wonder why it's getting worse again.

Only in that kick off's should be Saturday 3 o'clock. Can't stand Sunday games, or worse, Monday nights.

My love of following my team and association with it has waned since we've been in the Premier League I must admit

Football should be Saturday afternoons and Tuesday evenings. Anything else is bollocks!

There is a saying that goes: the journey is better than the destination. Our journey has been the stuff of dreams, a 7 year long dream at that. But as a (nearly 30) bloke who likes attending Bournemouth matches as often as I can, it's certainly lost something now we're up here.

It's certainly true in my experience to say that the higher up the pyramid you go and the more money there is involved, the more distant the club feels from the fan base. When there's only 6000 of you as the one and only source of income, the owners are probably local blokes also, suddenly the club can't do enough for you.

TV money and foreign ownership is the only way my club can compete at the highest level. My club has never had it so good, never had such quality of players, or such national and international interest and support. It's incredible. But at the same time those factors that mean my connection to the club is weakened as I'm reduced to a meaningless customer contributing chicken feed and whom several others would replace if I didn't pay. I know plenty of decades long supporters who can no longer see us play a league game because they lapsed one season at the wrong time when we started selling out every week.

The fact that I keep paying and thus am still able to knock around with mostly the same lads and other regular faces that I went to Barnet and Carlisle with keeps a connection to the lower league past. Eddie Howe remaining with his history at the club also helps. One day that won't be the case. Although I guess one day the PL circus will leave town also.

So many would kill to be where Bournemouth are today - so I should damn well love it... there's just two sides to the coin of modern football.

Agree with this.

Annoyingly for Saints we don't have a Saturday game until mid November now.

I was worried about this when we got bought by Abramovic, he at least saw it as more of a play thing at first but has become a fan in the process, for all the daft stuff and managerial changes ill take that over the likes of Arsenal who aren't interested in success and would rather just siphon off money from the club.

Aren't Chelsea indebted to Abramovich's holding company, Chelsea Limited, to the tune of nearly £750m?

Have you considered watching a local lower league/non-league side?

Yes, but if Roman did buy us to make a profit he would have fucked off years ago. He has become a fan of the club and we aint done badly out of it.

I'm not saying he's going to leave, but he'll be getting his money back.

Ah right sorry, yes your right he is getting his money back but as long as it doesn't stop us challenging for honours then fair enough.
