will Arsenal make a serious challenge for the title this season? (Yes I know a lot will depend on each clubs transfer dealings but this section has been pretty dead recently)

I don't think there's any reason/excuse not to. in 2014 we finished 4th, 7 points off champions City, but suffered big defeats to the teams around us. Last season despite horrible injuries and a poor start we finished an improved 3rd, but more importantly produced better results against the bigger sides, and our biggest defeat was by two goals. So there is some progress there.

Thoughts? Where do Arsenal need to strengthen in your view.

Stoke. No one can handle a cold and rainy night there.

Yeah Arsenal will challenge for their once in a decade shot at the title. Chelsea to just pip them to it though imo.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Two consecutive FA Cups and the more important matter of top four suggests to me that he won't get the boot.

He'll be there until he wants to retire. Unless he has a Moyesesque season from hell.

I hope so. Man City are still managed by a man who plays 442 and Chelsea look quite happy with having won the league but I'd be surprised if they kept the crown. They were great last season only half the time and I don't think they'll be hungry enough to retain. There's no valid reason for me saying this, just a gut feeling.
That and I really want Arsenal to challenge for the title.

Said earlier in the season that I thought Arsenal would give it a good bloody go next season. With the signing of Cech and a centre back to shore up the defence, I reckon they'll do it. Chelsea won it because everyone else was shit this season, United are nowhere near challenging still for me, Liverpool, no, Man City are ageing, and will only get worse imo, especially if their only idea is to sign Sterling. So I think if any year is the year for Arsenal to give the league a bash, it's this year. Another distraction to Chelsea I feel will be the fact that Mourinho will want to bring a Champions League to Chelsea finally (I'm aware they recently won it, but not by Jose), his ego will push him to want that imo.

Stockport County.
Yeah, Arsenal will be up there next year. A team is coming together there.

At this stage I have
Arsenal
Chelsea
City
United

United still have business to do though, I think it would have to be a hell of a lot of good business to get them challenging, Chelsea will be right up there too, all set up for a it of a ruck between Mourinho and Wenger again for me. Pre season sunshine, and watching women's football is maybe given me a foggy brain but I'll go for Arsenal as we stand. Chances are when winter sets in and the going gets tough, I may be looking more at Chelsea though.

They were great for half a season and good for the other half.

Cech is a great keeper but some saying his signing will make Arsenal favourites is beyond hilarious. They'll start pooly get a shit load of injuries and their title dreams will be over by mid February.

For 60% of last season we were probably one of the 3 best sides in Europe. Our small squad started to struggle with 3/4 months to go but we still managed to go unbeaten up until we won the league. What I'm saying is, we're only going to add to the superb squad we already have.... It's going to take a superb effort to stop us winning it again.

No you weren't. At no point would you have been considered better than Barca/Real/Bayern other than by Chelsea supporters and EDL folks. You won a league which had zero quarter-finalists in the Champions League and a poor showing in the Europa League.

Besides, 60% of last season is a nonsensical time period. Over 50% of each of the last two seasons, Arsenal accumulated the most points of any Premier League club. At no point do I think we were worthy of being labeled the best side in England.

My post was more aimed at Arsenal not having a chance of winning the league. Signing a keeper doesn't win you a league title.

If by some miracle you beat us to the title I'll be the first to congratulate you....but you know as well as me you'll bottle it.

Juventus, Bayern, Barca, Madrid, Atletico > Chelsea.
In the first half of the season we were far better than Juve and Atletico. Only a mad man would suggest otherwise.

In the second half of the season, Arsenal were the best team in the league. What's your point? It's based on a full season.

No excuses if they aren't. They should have been closer last season, I'll believe it when they have a good run under pressure for the top spot.

I'm sorry I don't know what you're getting at. All I'm saying is with a small squad, we were one of the best sides in Europe for at least half the season....if (more like when) we strengthen this summer we're going to be much stronger.

I'll stick my neck on the line and say we'll win the league and make the Champions League final.

History says Arsenal have bottled fewer league campaigns than Chelsea.

We will finish closer to Chelsea this upcoming season. I'd have a charity bet we finish 6 points off or better if you can stomach a fiver.

Recent history suggests otherwise.

Oops. I forgot you were a Barnet fan before "recent history". I did a quick google of this phrase: Recent history began in 2003, though the ensuing two years were largely pointless, when an enigmatic ex-KGB man achieved his lifelong dream of buying a football club with oil money as legitimately obtained as the Iron Throne.

Is that a "no" to my proposed bet?

I fancy them to go really close, Wenger is getting them stronger each season and now the ground is paid off they will have plenty of money to spend. The signing of Petr Cech will be a big one, rectifying a bit of a weakness that been glaringly obvious for a while now with a world class player. I really wouldn't like to guess who's going to win it next season at this stage.
