I think we have a policy not to beat Southampton, built into the Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Chambers deals, so 0-0.

We've started poorly. Not sure what the logic is in dropping Alexis and Xhaka for the PSG game when we can afford to lose that and this game is more important.

Nice overhead kick from Koscielny.

Great bicycle from Koscielny. Southampton complaining about high foot and it does seem like one of those things that needs to be clarified. Seem to remember a similar goal last season being ruled out for a high foot.

Much better second half but Southampton have been hard done there. They seem to be a bit of a bogey team for us at the moment so a good 3 points. Cazorla and Coquelin were outstanding. A good debut from Mustafi too. Perez quieter and didn't get much service. I actually thought Ozil was pretty poor today.

Arsenal fans would be suicidal if they went to the depths of league one in administration.

Any Saints fan who applauded Chamberlain and Walcott is a c*** as well.

Bet they boo Lallana though.

We aren't very good.

One less game with Puel in charge.

Disgraceful decision by the referee at the end, never a penalty, and Arsenal fans know it despite some tenuous claims about shirt pulling. Southampton robbed of a point.

What about the foul on Long a minute before the penalty? Or are we forgetting about that?

Should have been stopped for that too. I didn't mention it because I already said the game should have been stopped. But it wasn't, and the actual penalty shout was fair for the shirt pull/trip.

Swings and roundabouts. Southampton scored 3 illegitimate goals against us when you smashed us last season. Didn't see us complaining :animatedf:.

What about Redmond's absurd dive for Tadic's free kick? What about Long himself kicking Koscielny over at St Mary's last season? It was an entirely fair result.

Absolutely stone wall penalty.

Come off it. At worst a six of one, half a dozen of the other tumble in the area. Even that irritating prick Ian Wright acknowledged it was a bullshit decision. Arsenal incredibly fortunate.

Pulling a shirt to get an unfair advantage is a foul. Referees have been told specifically to clamp down on it this season. It used to be one of those fouls that was rarely actually given but so far this season I've already seen a few incidents where it has (e.g. the Stoke - City match, and Bournemouth - Palace).

But if Ian Wright said it ain't so then I guess that's that.

You don't actually believe that do you? His shirt was barely touched, and he went down long after any grasp on it was let go. There would be at least a handful of penalties every game if that degree of shirt pulling justified a spot kick, basically every corner and free kick coming into the area. We'll see if such 'fouls' are consistently dealt with in the same way this season, I highly doubt it.

It was a bullshit decision that effectively handed Arsenal all 3 points.

He almost ripped his shirt off, and tripped him up for good measure. Not much else to say other than you're wrong. 'Barely touched', christ, I even posted the video.

Almost ripped his shirt off.

And I guess if a fan of the team that benefited from the decision says I'm wrong then I surely must be. What was I thinking.

Just had a look. 50 of one. Giroud has his arm on Fontes shoulder as much as Fonte has a hold of Giroud. Twice Arsenal have been fortunate on penalty calls in 4 games. You're gonna win the league.

Nah Pagnell is wrong. You need to read the rules of the game, they are pretty clear. These calls are being given this season. Consensus on Reddit is that this is a clear penalty, of course a fan of a rival team would be understandably agrieved.

Sounds familiar..:animatedf:

That's the ticket. Stick to your guns in the face of common sense and everyone else's view.
