Is it just me or is the atmosphere as home fans getting to the point where you could almost drop off.

Apart from the Bristol City game - which TBF had a cracking atmosphere - virtually every game is so dull.

Seems to be a trait at a lot of clubs nowadays - although I suppose as very few clubs bring more than the low hundreds (being a norvern league) is it to be expected.

I've been to one English game between Liverpool and Arsenal. The Kop was too quiet. I could only hear the Arsenal fans.

Was decent up until last season, when 8 long seasons of crap finally took it's toll and there was a sense of inevitability about losing most games and going down. This season has been almost as bad results wise, but much worse atmosphere wise because we all expected much better results/performances, coupled with the fact that there's usually only a few hundred fans in our massive away end.

When it was almost full in the promotion season especially the night game when we annihilated Burton 7-1 to edge towards promotion it was phenomenal. Other than that it's meh.

Ours is terrible, the supposed hardcore singers in the rainham end only wake up at the beginning of the second half and there are so few of us left on the town end ( Brian moore ) that it's all but impossible to get an atmosphere going

Atmosphere was incredible on return to the Ricoh, since then it has been awful due to the crowd.

Our home support before the EastEnd was taken down was pretty good but now it's not the same. Been average this year

Worst atmosphere was at Doncaster when they were 2-0 in their first home win in ages against 9 men. Not one song.

Bristol City also didn't sing one song when we went there in the JPT.

Ours is beyond awful. Preston at home on the last day of the season last year, was the last good atmosphere at Crewe.

I'm a bit of an oldster, but even 10-15 years ago it was fine.

What has caused it?

Maybe clubs should bring in a rule that anyone entering a ground must be pissed

Usually poor noise wise but we have 100-200 who do at least try and get it going in the Cowshed, had a few comments this season from away fans who were impressed at our home fans, IIRC a Bradford City fan on here said exactly that which was refreshing to hear.

Poor apart from the odd few times when the Town End gets going.

Our shite style of play and the fact there is only about 200/ 300 in a 6,000 away end most of the time doesn't help though.

It was fucking dreadful against Scunthorpe on Saturday.

In the first half of the Crawley game on Saturday the crowd was so quiet you could hear people chatting away to each other about their daily grind and what's for dinner etc, the atmosphere is so poor at the County Ground and has been since Di Canio left.

I must admit for the league cup game it was pretty decent and better than most iv heard this year i only lasted about 10 minutes for the league game so cant comment on that

Shit this season, was better last season when we were bottom of the league. That's the effect of the East End being demolished though I guess.

Used to generally be decent at Layer Road, but now it's a bit sporadic really. The problem now is that the ground always feels deserted as there's so many empty seats, so even if it does get going a little bit it just seems to be lost.

It's the same as most places though in that there's a small section who generally sing for most of the game, and everywhere else joins in once or twice during the game if we're winning or enjoying some sustained pressure.

I guess it also depends where you are in the ground. When you're in amongst it, it can sound really, really decent when it gets going but whether that carries elsewhere is anyone's guess. Probably not that well.

Really poor at home, as many clubs seem to be. It was pretty good a couple of years ago as we were promoted, but on the whole over the 12 years of the new stadium, it's sporadic at best. There's a couple of groups who try and get things going, who seem incapable of joining together.

Away games are far, far better for a good sing song.

No standing, no swearing, no smoking, no tickertape, no flags, no fighting, no farting, vastly over priced weak as piss ale and a culture of apologists that like to whinge about absolutely fucking everything and anything.

Sit down, shut up, spend your money but don't you dare attempt to have a laugh & enjoy yourself.

Football is fucked. Everyone's turned into reyt boring bastards.

Apart from the odd game or two every season, I'm willing to bet the atmosphere at all English clubs is awful.

Football here needs safe-standing so much.

Why is it though, the loss of the standing area's?
I remember as a lad at Notts in the County Road stand, all standing (now Sirrel) it was amazing - so loud! Now its very rare unless the game is exciting that you get much in the way of atmosphere.

Could it be that generally the home team are too frightened to lose rather than to go hell for leather for the win. This seems to filter to the stands and everyone is more interested with who's doing what wrong rather than the match.
When you are away 99% of the time the atmosphere is good, the away fans are altogether and its a "day out".

Haha, exactly. Gotta love a good old smoke bomb thread though. Livens the place up a bit.

I never thought I would see Bradford City and Sheffield United fans praising our home support.

I feel strange.

Usually always dead.

We occasionally make a little bit of noise behind the goal but that's it. There used to be a great atmosphere in the corner next to the away fans but that died after the stadium manager changed everything and basically banned fans from sitting there. However, we have reopened it during the last few weeks but it's just a group of young kids going in there trying to look hard.
