Ah I've missed this. Barnsley have created absolutely fuck all yet are 2-0 up.

Never change Vale. :D

Well, if you'd asked me what the worst possible start to a season might be then this would be it, 2-0 down within minutes and lucky for it not to be 3-0 (after a saved pen).

Exeter looked right up for it from KO (as it should be) and we just never got going - anyway, they're good value for their lead for sure.

We've looked very "meh" so far, not much attacking threat.

More passing football than the Ainsworth style of old for sure, but as is always the risk with playing more in that way, you run a fair risk of the play breaking down before it actually gets anywhere.

In short, we look very much less than the sum of our parts at present. And no excuses that "the players need time to bed in", Exeter's XI has had plenty of changes as well, at the moment they seem to have coped with those changes a lot better than we have.

Plenty of time for us to get back in this, but we've done ourselves no favours whatsoever, and we're seriously going to have to stick a rocket up our arse to get even a draw out of this.

Nothing like puncturing all that pre-season optimism, eh...

2-0 up v Oxford and well deserved.
Oxford are passing the ball around quite nicely but the real U’s have been far more incisive and created more and clearer chances.
It’s been quite fun watching the relegation-favourites playing some pretty decent football.
Still 45 to go (well 50-something these days) and I suspect Oxford are good enough to get back in to this if we are not 100% on it second half…

2-0 down but doesn’t tell the full story. We’ve played pretty well and I’ve enjoyed large parts of our game. Sadly one bad pass from Dan Jones then an OG from him have cost us. Next goal is key.

Football is about scoring and so far they have scored 2 and you have scored zero.
Totally agree. I have a feeling we'll be saying it a lot this season. They have been dreadful though and don't even deserve to be level. Comfortably we're the better team except for where it matters.

Silly pass that. Overall as I expected our general play is very good. Far better than Barnsley but we’ve not done enough in front of goal.

We need to get an early goal, if these are as bad second half as they have been first then losing this would be a travesty but expect they will improve.

Impressed with Mitch Clarke and Gav is running about a bit!

Don’t know how it is with other games but with all the time added on only just kicked off the second half. It’s a good change but there’s going to be a few missing the last train home on night games I feel.

Safe to say I’m worried. We are going to have far tougher tests than this and we’ve failed big style.

Well our biggest weakness the last 2-3 seasons was set pieces. Looks like we may have done some work on them over the summer we’ve already scored 2 headers from corners this season.

Before the season I was thinking/hoping the defence would be a lot tighter. Erm about that…

I have a feeling we might be in the relegation mix...all over the place defensively after a really bright start.

Can’t wait to see what the lads can do when not been dominated by Vale
I have to be honest. I did not see that coming. We were the better team, significantly so, first half and then the third goal we've just given up.

Take the positives, at least we’re not bottom so thanks to Wigan for being a bunch of cheats.

Deserved defeat then, Nombe a right pain in the arse up front for Exeter and their defence looked very solid, read the game well and put themselves in harm's way to cut out our chances, pretty much what you want really.

Yes, we had a shite start, but although we huffed and puffed we never did enough to get ourselves back in it, and in all honesty only had half chances.

It wasn't all bad from us and there were flashes of quality from some of the new signings, but we'll need to play a lot better than that to even get anywhere near mid-table.

A bad day at the office then, firmly filed as "one to forget" and we move on.

8 mins extra time in the first half here, 14 mins in the second half. Anyone beating that?

I feel for Conor Ripley as not one of the seven goals I put on him. Jones and Cass as the wide centrebacks have been a complete horror show.

The 10 mins stoppage time in the second half feels somewhat like cruel and unusual punishment.
