Yey, my favourite thread returns. How will your club do in the first month of the season? Yes, I know its difficult to judge but hey, why not give it a bash eh?

For us:

Port Vale(H) - Draw. We have a decent record against them and hopefully that continues here. I think we should be able to grab a draw here.

Preston(H, LC) - Loss. Unless they bring their reserves, I think they will have too much for us in this one. Might be able to drag it into ET, but ultimately, I think we'll lose this one.

Scunny(A) - Loss. Scunny have made some shrewd additions and I think look capable of being a dark horse for the play offs. Think they'll grind out a win in this one.

Coventry(A) - Draw. Regardless of how much they might or might not have improved, playing in an empty Ricoh will take it's toll I think. Hopefully we can continue our unbeaten record there and grab a draw.

Bury(H) - Loss. They have a stacked front line and I think they'll have too much for us to handle. Narrow defeat I think.

Wigan(A) - Loss. Comfy defeat I think, they've made some impressive signings and will be the team to beat this season.

So, hard to see where a win is coming from amongst that lot, although a lot hinges on the Vale game. We win that, then I think the next 3 league games take on a very different complexion, especially if any of those teams get off to a slow start. Potential for good start, also the potential a rubbish one too. Yep, I'll stay sitting on the fench.

How will you do?

Pretty tough starter month, but hopefully teams will be more wary about playing us this season. They should be anyway.

Swindon (A) L - Never beat Swindon.

York (A) (League Cup) - W. We quite like the cups.

Shrewsbury (H) W. Does their ground still smell of poo. Good job we're at home for this one.

Gillingham (H) D. A team I quite rate. Think they'll do well this year and this will be a tough game.

Barnsley (A) L. Fooking Dingles.

Port Vale (H) W. Don't rate Vale at all.

I was optimistic until Dull Davis made a series of dull announcements about Left Backs, wantaway players and defensive formations today.

Loss to all games taking place this month bar Port Vale, which will be a draw with us scoring an own goal.

Shrewsbury (A) - would be very happy with a draw there. Experience, continuity and momentum: they have basically everything we're lacking at the moment. DRAW.

Coventry (H) - another tough game but we should be looking to win every home fixture this season. WIN.

Barnsley (H) - games don't get any easier. Fancy Barnsley for top six at least. DRAW.

Scunthorpe (A) - shithole, put together a decent side on paper. Wake-up call in the lower league tradition. LOSS.

Chesterfield (H) - Given their fire sale, I'd say home banker. We'll probably get dicked now I've said that. WIN.

Errr..I think you'll be in for a shock if you think you should be winning every home game this year. This isn't Sunday bloody league.

Where did I say we should win every home game this year? I said we should be looking to win every home fixture this season, because this league is shit and it always has been. We lost once at home in our last season here in a division containing the likes of Southampton, Leeds and Norwich. There's not one side I can see that I think should turn us over at the Den -- even on paper.

Crewe - W - Good feeling well get a really good result here, no idea why after recent meetings but thinking 3-1 with some of their old lads getting the goals.

Burnley - loss as expected

Gillingham -W- usually do well at home against them.

Swindon - L - standard result here

Doncaster -D- dicked them twice last season but think a point here would be decent.

Bradford - D - rarely lose to these and they look fairly average again on paper. Should be looking for something from this and think we'll get it.

We will probably win the tough away games and lose the easy home games though, because it's us.

If Jaaskelainen signs and we get this 'decent centre back' in we are chasing we will be one of the better sides. Should be looking at least play-offs.

We're a CB, GK and CM away from being a decent outfit. I don't know how anyone can say we have an easy start, when no one actually knows how anyone will fair until the league starts to take shape anyway. On paper, yes - but we all know the beautiful game isn't played on anything other than a green carpet.

Crewe - W - We've got to win this time surely?

Burnley - L - It'll probably be tight but we'll get done by the odd goal

Gillingham -W- They've improved this season but they never travel too well to Vale Park

Swindon - L - We always lose at Swindon

Doncaster -D- I think they'll be better this year and this will be a tough game

Bradford - L - We've done relatively well at Bradford in recent seasons but I can see them having a bit too much for us here.

We've got a tough start to the season, with probably 75% of new players and I think the results will pan out as inconsistent until we gel fully as a new team.

That's confident! I'd highly doubt you'll get that many wins from the first few matches as I can't really see how much you've improved from last season?
