I can see why LJ would go to Barnsley but it's a bit of a risk considering Oldham are in such a good position at the minute. Results like last weekend must be so frustrating, though.

Apparently the football was boring at Oxford under Wilder, under his management we are top scorers in the league. Odd.

You don't want Ainsworth, having half a good season and the bloke is a thundercunt

There were rumours he was pissed at the board over the Ched Evans saga, might have something to do with it?

Getting anyone from a team in the same division as us is dependent on how much money we're willing to spend. We've more than most down here but whether we've got enough to tempt Cooper or even Johnson, I don't know. Would be an odd move especially for the former.

"Oldham Athletic manager Lee Johnson has said it will be the board’s decision whether or not to accept any approach from Barnsley over their vacant manager’s position.
Johnson has been linked with a move to Oakwell after manager Danny Wilson was sacked by The Tykes last week.
The Latics boss is currently the bookmaker’s favourite for the job, but he insists it won’t be his choice to leave."

Lee Johnson said:
If the club receive interest then it’s up to them whether or not they accept. That goes for anybody though and not just for the situation at Barnsley.

As far as I’m concerned I’m happy in the job at Oldham and I get on really well with the players, the staff and everybody else.

The board has always said that they want me to remain and I have two and a half years left on my contract so it won’t be my decision to leave.

I thought the bookmakers had the wrong Johnson at first when I heard I was favourite for the job as it’s my dad who is out of work at the moment.

I’m an ambitious manager and I’d love to one day manage in the higher divisions and it would be great if we can do that with Oldham.

We’re doing everything we can to get Oldham there and at the moment there isn’t anything else in my mindset.

As far as I’m concerned I’ll be in the dugout for the game against Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Sounds like Corney's got a big decision to make.

I'd like to think Corney would prefer to keep LJ on the basis that he's building something decent here, and he'd originally taken a huge risk appointing him in the first place. I'd also like to think LJ will show a bit of loyalty towards the club that gave him his opportunity in management and a shiny new contract earlier in the season, by not moving to a club lower than us in League One. Fair enough if Cotterill went to the Championship and City started courting him, or just a team who look in a much better place than us, just not Barnsley (no offense, lads).

I'm not too confident though. If he does go, I want Dowie and noone else.

I know money is a big factor but I think he'll be a right idiot to move right now there.

he's got it nicely settled at Oldham, he'd have a big re-build job at Barnsley..........he has not yet built up a career to guarantee he'll get a further job if it backfires at Barnsley.

If Johnson has said to corney that he wants permission to speak to barnsley the we should let him, but it want the club to hold out for a good compensation fee. We have shown a lot of faith in him by originally giving him the job when we were really in the shit, but he repaid us by keeping the team up. Then last year we gave him a four and a half year deal despite the team again being perilously close to relegation. This season has been much different though and he looks to be getting better as a manager but there are still flaws. I still think he owes us a little but if we can get a decent fee compo then it will soften the blow. It's just a shame as for the first time in quite a few years things were going fairly swimmingly heading towards the final third of the season.

Hope Johnson doesn't go to Barnsley, he'd be top of my list this summer when/if Grayson fails to take us up again.

Paolo 1/5 for the job.

The fans will love him - the players less so.

He will engender passion amongst the fans but ultimately he will fuck you up

If he does get the job...hold on tight Barnsley fans. You'll love him, admire his passion for your club...then it'll all go tits up when something happens that he doesn't like.

Judging by a quick glance at their forum and a chat with my Barnsley supporting colleague, I can't see them loving him. The first thread is "No Fascists at our club please" and "BARNSLEY FOOTBALL CLUB IS A JOKE" :fl:

The chairman will need to keep the cheque book locked away.
Always make me laugh when fans say a manager nearly bankrupted our club (ala Redknapp at Pompey).
It's the chairman who signs the cheques and the contracts.

I imagine it'd be the same as when he took over here. We lost a couple of sponsors, some fans stayed away etc but the general match day feel was awesome. Fans will always warm to success.

That was the problem at Swindon it wasn't the owner it was the Chairman who was his best mate and was a West Ham fan(Jeremy Wray) apparently he was infatuated with PDC and just kept agreeing to everything. Once Andrew Black found out the real amounts of money that were being squandered he pulled the rug out from under the clubs feet, we were 24 hours from oblivion and sold Matt Ritchie to bournemouth for 200k to keep the club going. Di Canio was being paid 14k a week there were also players on 8k plus a week. Thankfully we have come out of it unscathed as Black wrote off the 10 million debt that had been racked up and more importantly Lee Power managed to oust the leeches Mcrory and Agombar who bought the club for £1 from Black.

It was the perfect storm which is why he was found out at Sunderland when trying to employ similar tactics of over training players, falling out with key players and signing double the amount he actually needed.

Yeah, his recruitment policy was very scattergun - apparently some bought off the back of just watching YouTube clips.

Others were pursued if they happened to play well against us. He has no time for youth players, either.

Yet, people easily got caught up in the passion of the man and the fact he was the focal point of hatred from opposing fans only increased a kind of siege mentality.

It wont be dull, that's for sure.

It's all died down about him over the weekend. Back down to 12/1 now. Even Cooper is shorter odds at 9/2.

Lee Johnson on the other hand is now 1/4. Someone has obviously put a few quid on him, for some reason. Whoever we get, they won't be able to turn around the clusterfcuk we've made of this season. I just hope they get it right next season.

Shame he didn't stay until the end of the season as Oldham still have a good shot at the Play-Offs.

Seems like it's going to be Johnson, was at Glanford Park this evening. Odd timing to join us on his part, but hopefully he'll bring something new in place of Wilson's outdated guff. I actually expected Burton to be given it till the end of the season if we won tonight. Looks like it was going to be Johnson regardless.
