A nice promotion battle at Oakwell on Saturday.

Barnsley are flying and will be looking to keep winning and working their way up the table. Southend are slumping a bit after poor results in back to back home games against relegation candidates. Going to need to up their game to avoid slipping out of the promotion race.

Hard to look past Barnsley on this one, they are flying and should be able to get past a stuttering Southend side.

Form:
Barnsley: LWDWWW
Southend: LLWLDL

Recent meetings:
17 Oct 2015 Southend United 2-1 Barnsley League One

I hope you're right. I'm looking forward to every game now and can't wait for Saturday, it'll be a very tough game for us but keep on playing as we have been and there's no reason we can't win. Still can't believe we're in a game labelled a "promotion battle".

Superb from Southend today, pretty much the perfect away performance. Got at us from the off, scored an early goal, got lucky with Bentley not being sent off (exactly the same as in the return fixture weirdly enough) and us missing the penalty but used every trick in the book after that. Time wasted where appropriate, didn't let us play it about as other teams have and got 3 men on each of our wingers immediately after they received the ball. Admittedly we were absolute toss as opposed to previous games but that's not taking anything away from Southend, they were quicker on and off the ball and ultimately wanted it more.
Fair play to the travelling Shrimpers too, went absolutely batshit mental for the second goal and final whistle, can't stand it when away fans see their team win at Oakwell and just stand and politely applaud at the final whistle.

Chalk fcuk on it (as they say in Tarn) and move on, we were due to come up against a team that didn't just sit back all game and actually took their chances. Good luck for the rest of the season Shrimpers.

Should add that Payne (never heard of him previously) and Barrett the centre-half were class and I hope we buy both in the summer:2thumb:
