The Oxford response is we got lucky last time and didnt have a game plan
"Martin Allen didn't come with some sort of master plan. I think even the Barnet supporters there on the night would say the home team would have won seven times out of ten and two of the rest would have been draws!"

As a Barnet fan who was present I would disagree.
Barnet had two stonewall pens not given and a third g(u)ilt edged chance in the first half . The plan was to use big balls and throws into the box to unsettle the Oxford defence and in the first half it worked. We have a specialist throw-in taker called Sam Muggleton who is reserved for sides Allen thinks will struggle with long throws into the box, he has only three starts this season against Oxford, Accrington and Portsmouth.

I don't think we will win this one and tbh I don't care much either way. I would love to see our youngsters get more game time, maybe Taylor. Shomotun or Stevens. Footballing wise we are a better side now than we were in October with Pearson in particular adding a lot to our game but we will miss Josh Clarke.

Guilt-edged eh? No wonder we missed that chance as we would have felt bad about it if we had scored.
I'm looking forward to this one, again another opportunity to measure our progress over the season.

He will love a 'good reception' but what's this about him being a racist?!

A big game for us to consolidate the three points midweek. Having such a good away form and seeing Barnet were only able to pick up a point against the shower that are York this season gives me the confidence to predict an away win.

Interesting tactic of having a long throw specialist for three to six games a season. What a waste of a wage!

To be fair Sam isn't a bad footballer. Most of the time he comes off the bench for the last 20 min. I think he has 10-15 appearances this season as a sub. Certainly not a waste of a wage, especially as we have never lost a league game he has started in the last two seasons..

Masterplan's a bit strong, but Allen's gameplan was spot on for us. Massively worked first half. Little concerned it'll be similar tomorrow, but hopefully Dunkley can continue his good form. We missed him that day.

Has to be said, for the best part of an hour we did dominate that match. Just watched Martin Allen's pre match interview (was posted on our forum) and he said you were very lucky to win that day, mentioned we hit the post and bar, talked about the keeper making a number of saves... If he thinks you were lucky, it's hard to disagree. There was more than a fair chunk of quality to go with it though, and your home record's superb; so certainly one of the toughest games we've got left tomorrow.

I doubt he is somehow.

Would think it more likely he's made a stupid mistake in the heat of the moment, served his punishment and moved on.

Doesn't detract from the fact he's a racist.

I'm looking forward to this game for the reason that my 9year old daughter is mascot and is excited about leading out the players

Give her a big cheer

Actually I think there is a difference between being an idiot and saying something to get a reaction in the heat of the moment, and harbouring genuinely racist beliefs.

I believe the author of that article has admitted he relied on the 1 minute highlights rather than watching the game, so I'm not surprised OUFC fans are disagreeing with his assessment of us.

If he admitted that he was as idiot and said something to get a reaction in the heat of the moment then I might agree. He didn't, he denied it, and was found guilty. Anyone there that day knew by the way that Kabba reacted that something completely out of order had been said.

Whatever his motivation for denying it, whether he actually hadn't said anything or whether he was trying to get away with something; it's still a giant leap to say that because he denied it you're inclined to believe that the lad holds genuinely racist views as opposed to thinking he was a moron that said something stupid and handled the whole incident badly.

So we come down to him being a racist moron who got caught expressing his views in public. I suggest the only change is he has learnt to keep such views to himself

If you say so.

I'd be surprised if he started today. Likely to be Waring and Roofe up top, MacDonald and either Maguire or O'Dowda wide. Should come off the bench though.

Allen isn't right in the head. Results like this really do cement that he's not actually good enough at L2 level, but then we go and scrape a 1-0 win against someone by getting ridiculously lucky and it's all forgotten again.

How many times are we going to get absolutely flattened before people wake up to it?

We actually haven't been flattened many times this season, this is about as most flattened as we've been all season. Oxon showed their superior quality in the second half.
I do agree that not playing Togwell or Champion in central midfield was odd though.

We've been flattened loads of times, the scoreline just doesn't actually always show it. We've had so few matches this season where we've looked good for the whole 90 minutes - the rest of the time it's either a shit 90 mins, or good/even 45 mins and shit second half. It's Allen's doing and it's not good enough.

15th in the league and safe already? Don't want to patronise but surely that's a decent season for Barnet in your first season back.

It's a very decent season, I have no complaints there (and no-one should have). But we've done that with some horrible football, incredibly lucky results at times (Away at yours, home to Rovers, Plymouth and Portsmouth) and confusing subs. He recruited terribly in the summer, and yes he's to an extent rectified that with his signings since, but these results can't be ignored either. We've had more than a few absolutely terrible games this season and have flattered to deceive in many of our wins.

I know that really, I can't complain too much, given the size of our club and our position - but when you see how we actually play, it grates on you.

Gave it a go for 45 but we were to stretched second half and Oxford tore us apart. Sesay looked lost

As if to prove my point, Allen goes after the game: 'Everybody had a real go'

Just do one you moron!

First half nothing in it, in fact we really got under Oxford players skin, and really began bullying them which I think came as a surprise to them.

Second half bit of a scruffy goal from nothing and after that they had their tails up. Best team I've seen offensively this season. No. 7 and 11 for Oxford stood out Roofe had a pretty quiet game.

No disgrace losing to teams with budgets we simply can't compete with

Once we stopped being compact they ruthlessly exploited the space that opened up. Teams in this league don't usually counter-attack so quickly and with such precision.
Hope your daughter enjoyed her big day!

Actually thought Barnet looked a decent side first half, after Oxford's first they did capitulate a bit and Oxford's superior quality showed. Callum O'Dowda is some player. Roofe had an off day.

What a strange strange place the hive is to watch football. No proper pubs nearby the ground in a dreary nondescript north London suburb, a weird 'sports complex' feel, a terrace made out of metal rather than concrete. Also probably the only time I've seen a football league game where the home team didn't even have one small section of singing support. Very odd, seems like the move away from Barnet hasn't worked out?

There's not much we can do about the number of pubs nearby, which has a lot to do with the fact that this area has a large South Asian population who don't tend to go to pubs. The terraces were built by Wealdstone and the away one is going to be replaced by a seated stand.
You're right about the singing though, but Underhill was usually not much better and the atmosphere for when we won the league against Gateshead was electric, as good as any match I went to at Underhill.
The move has worked for us revenue-wise but we don't get more than a core home support of 1700 (apart from that Gateshead match!)
