We got a lucky point from this one.

Shrewsbury set up better than us and pressured well but were a bit wasteful in attack. In the 1st half we hamstrung ourselves by having Gino van Kessel as the point man of our attack and he isn't going to beat your average Lg 1 centre half in the air very often (he did say this himself in a post match interview). It didn't help though that the Shrewsbury no.5 was allowed to shove his way every time in a challenge. Shrewsbury will claim a 1st half penalty but then we will claim a penalty 30 seconds earlier.

2nd half started just like the 1st half with Shrewsbury on top. We were not at the races that quickly led to a good double substitution by us with Obika (played well after coming on) and Rothwell coming on. The substitutions changed the match so that it was even with both sides creating chances and Gino van Kessel finally becoming a threat with his pace.

Both goals were similar in that both involved poor defending and a goalmouth scramble. Shrewsbury did hit the crossbar as well with Carlton Morris but looking at the bounce of the ball (from the other end) I'd be surprised if it was over the line. Although somebody needs to tell Morris that chasing the Ref around the pitch won't make it become a goal.

So in summary, Shrewsbury will think they should have won, our players will be disappointed they conceded late after taking the lead, but thankful they got a point from game we should have already been behind in.

Edit: Considering their start, I thought Shrewsbury would have brought more supporters than they did.

Shrews looked a solid side, much better than us on the day but that wasn't saying much, i'm not too worried, 7 points from 4 games is a good start, but we're lacking a couple of players and we really, really lack pace, with this talk of no more transfers I think it's unlikely this team reaches the playoffs

I caught the second half, we were atrocious.

Quite how we took a point is beyond me!

In the premature season prediction I said that no way we will struggle this season, although I can understand why the bookies have us as relegation favourites, and fellow league one fans would see no reason to disagree.

Interesting that according to the opposition fans of Northampton, Wimbledon, Rochdale and Oxford all put in their worst performances...we must be so lucky to play everyone on a bad day.

Gillingham away next, never easy at their place, and I am sure Tom Eaves will be eager to make a point or three, then Wigan, Southend and Blackburn coming up, so 4 tricky games.

Yesterday from our perspective, Oxford got lucky, it was a definite penalty on Whalley and should have been a sending off, and Morris lob clearly was over the line with a few inches to spare spinning back onto the underside of the bar. Unfortunately if the lino is not sure he wont flag it has crossed.Could have been a smash and grab for Oxford but we deservedly found an equaliser and really should still have won it with Payne missing a sitter!

That's very unfair. None of the Oxford fans above are denying that you looked a good side, and I'd agree with them. That said, we did put in our worst performance of the season, but how much of that was down to you or us is always going to be debatable. No one is saying you only won because we were poor, so get over yourself.

A couple of things I'd take issue with though. Morris' effort did not look over the line (whole of the ball) from what I've seen, both live and in replay. I think you should have had a penalty, but you conveniently forget the one we should have had, which was just as clear, within a couple of minutes of your shout, and a clear case of the referee levelling things up.

To finish, we desperately missed Marvin Johnson's pace on Saturday, as we did at Scunthorpe, and the sooner he fucks off and we spend the £3 million on a replacement and a couple of additions the better. Either that, or he stays and gets his head down and repays his employers for their faith in him and earns his wages, as this whole circus is affecting the club from top to bottom in my opinion.

They do seem to forget the penalty that we could have had for the challenge on Mike Williamson from which they broke and had their penalty claim.

To be fair, it did look well over the line.
