Have you posted this in the League One section in preparation for the kind of names you'll be facing next season?

A couple spring immediately to mind here:

Paul Gascoigne when he was playing for Tottenham in 88/89, absolutely fucking outrageous player. I wish he'd been less of a headcase off the pitch, probably the most talented English player in my lifetime.

Then two Portsmouth players came to The Den on separate occasions and were clapped off by the home fans for running us ragged - Robert Prosinecki and Paul Merson.

I could have said Ronaldo too I guess, but he didn't impress me as much as the others.

Scholes was different class in that game.
Merson was probably the only one I can remember being virtually unplayable, and that was against one of our best recent teams.

Bobby Zamora in his first spell at Brighton was unplayable when we played then. Kevin Phillips and Niall Quinn was probably the best partnership I've seen. We played alright against that Sunderland team (think they got over 100 points that year) but they just destroyed us 5-2.

That was the best match I've seen Bury lose, if that makes sense. Didn't feel bad after it. Even so, Bullock's goal was the pick of the night!

Finished with 105 points, 18 ahead of second placed Bradford City, lost 3 games all season, those 3 defeats happened quite close to each other between November and January, they remained unbeaten aside from that, average crowds for the season 38,000, best attack with 91 goals, best defence letting in just 28.
That was one hell of a team.

Did Van Nistelrooy play in John Duncan's testimonial at Saltergate? I can't remember. I know that they only had 5 or 6 big names playing because they also had a team at Bournemouth(?) on the same day.

I also vaguely recall Diego Forlan scoring with a free-kick.

I was at the Chelsea and Arsenal games and agree with most of what was said.
For me though, and it's probably a little strange, but the one who stood out most for me was Kevin Sheedy when we played Everton in the FA Cup.
The sweetest left foot I have seen and he just sprayed the ball all over the park.

Yes mate he did. The United squad was :

MANCHESTER UNITED: Barthez, Roche, Blanc, Tate, Tierney, Keane, P Neville, Davis, Richardson, van Nistelrooy, Forlan, M Williams, Jowsey, Webber, Wood, Hilton.

I remember Blanc and Barthez playing cos me and my mates were laughing about whether Blanc was gonna do his forehead kiss on Barthez pre kick off, a la World Cup final!

The best individual performance I remember by an opposition player was Ali Benarbia for Man City circa 2002. He was superb.

Zola - when Chelsea spanked us 4-0 in the FA cup run that saw us knock Everton out the round before....

Having spent 34 years in prem (I only saw 15 of them) was lucky to see a wealth of top players. A few that spring to mind are Beckham, Giggs, Bergkamp, Sheringham, Zola, Henry, Gascoigne, Shearer, Scholes, Juninho - could go on...

Obviously there's some players who you just expect it from but I always thought Matt Le Tissier was amazing.
