Based on his club CV I don't suppose Chris Coleman was either.
Dude supports St Mirren, cut him some slack. The club that sacked Alex Ferguson and turned down Ronaldinho, understandable why he's so bitter.
What's arrogant here? Everybody could manage Real Madrid. The question is: How long?
It is rather amusing reasoning though, hire someone with a rubbish record because Chris Coleman managed to beat Belgium and the world worst ever Russian side?
You're confused. It's not a reason to hire him, it's simply a fact that illustrates how little a managers CV matters in the grand scheme of things. There isn't much of a history of correlation between club and international managerial success, especially in recent years. The managers that have done well have done so with a a sound tactical basis, a good team spirit, and a group of players that have bought into their system completely. Whether Big Sam can deliver those things remains to be seen, but I don't think it's a criteria beyond him, and I don't think any result that Portugal achieved in the recent Euros is beyond the squad we have were the right mentality in place.
