Cardiff line up- Marshall, Ralls, Brayford, Manga, Morrison, Noone, Pilkington, Whittingham, Gunnarsson, Le Fondre, Macheda.
Forest line up- Darlow, Lichaj, Wilson, Mancienne, Hunt, Antonio, Burke, Tesche, Lansbury, Fryatt, Assombalonga.
Russell Slade couldn't have asked for a better start as Cardiff manager, picking up a 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest. But City didn't start very well, Forest kept possession and almost went one up when Matty Fryatt's curling shot was pushed wide of the post by keeper Marshall. Forest kept up this pressure and City had Craig Noone to thank for not going behind, after Burke's dazzling run left Ralls for dead, fired past Marshall but Noone stepped in to clear off the line. This then sparked a catalyst for the Bluebirds, going straight up the other end and opened the scoring. Aron Gunnarsson's charging run down the center of the pitch, found Macheda on the edge of the box, skipping passed Fryatt and firing low into the bottom left corner.
Forest didn't learn from their mistakes and City punished them once more, Whittingham picking up the loose ball, given plenty of time to pick his spot and smashed the ball into the back of Darlow's net. This intense pressure continued from Cardiff and they almost made it 3-0, Whittingham hit another shot towards goal, but Darlow was able to react this time and kept the ball out as the game moved into half time.
Stuart Pearce was not a happy man at half time and needed to change something, this came in the form of full-back Dan Harding who replaced Eric Lichaj for the second half. This improvement wasn't instant though, and the Bluebirds continued to dominate the game, and Forest had Darlow to thank for keeping out Morrison's header at the back post. Forest started to even the game out after that and started creating pressure of their own, winger Antonio was allowed to weave his way into the box and fire low, only for Marshall to parry the ball straight into the feet of Assombalonga who put the ball into an empty net, but the linesman ruled it offside. Forest kept pilling pressure on the defense, and finally got their reward, Antonio had got ahead of Noone and put a low cross into the back post which Assombalonga calmly stroked home. Surely to late to get a point out of this? Not what the Forest players had in mind, Antonio again got the beating of Noone, cutting inside and firing a low shot into the bottom corner, only for David Marshall to get both hands on the ball and keep the Bluebirds one goal ahead.
Slade couldn't be happier with this result, after a really poor start to the season from City, beating the team joint top of the league has to be a big confidence boost. Next up for the Bluebirds is another home game against Ipswich on Tuesday night, a game they will surely want to win and move even further up the table. For Forest it's another road trip, this time against table toppers Watford, a really tough match that will prove both teams promotion credentials.

Thought after Burke's shot was cleared that it wasn't going to be our day, great game to watch and you deserved the win.

Agreed, had my head in my hands, I thought it was in! But it was a really great game to watch and for the first time this season, a good atmosphere!
