Dougie Freedman saw his side beaten 2-0 by a strong Derby County side at the weekend, meaning that the Trotters dropped into the relegation zone of the Championship table.

Steve McClaren placed former Bolton target Jordan Ibe into the starting eleven, hoping that he could reproduce his form that he showed in the Rams 2-2 draw with Cardiff City. Bolton returned to the 4-5-1 formation in an attempt to 'out football' Derby, with Owen Garvan replacing October player of the month, Craig Davies.

Derby started the strongest, forcing Wanderers' keeper Andy Lonergan to make an early save in the opening minutes. A clumsy challenge from Joe Mason left the referee with no choice but to point to the spot, awarding Chris Martin with the chance to give the Rams the lead. The striker stepped up, but Lonergan dived the right way to palm the weak penalty kick away. However, Martins made amends for the missed penalty after 38 minutes, when he met Christie's low cross and diverted it into the bottom corner.

HT- Bolton 0-1 Derby

The start of the second half saw no changes, but many Wanderers supporters felt as though former Barnsley forward Craig Davies should have been introduced into the game to try and force an equaliser for the Trotters. However, he was not introduced into the game until Derby doubled their league. Jamie Ward pounced on a loose ball and Garvan failed to tackle the winger as he played the ball forward for Martin, who doubled his tally and the scoreline.

This sparked boos from the home crowd, who believed that the performance so far had not been good enough. Then, the crowd turned on their manager and chairman, as a chorus of 'Freedman Out' and 'Gartside Out' were heard from the terraces. Little else happened for the rest of the game, apart from when two supporters ran onto the field of play and threw their season tickets at the dugout, as Freedman watched on.

FT- Bolton 0-2 Derby

This win moved Derby up into the play-off places, as they occupied 6th place after they claimed their fourth win of the campaign. The Rams host Bournemouth tonight, as they look to continue their positive run of games. Bolton, however, dropped to 22nd, one point above Fulham who they play tomorrow, as the two worst defences in the league go head to head.

Bolton in all sorts of trouble as a club by the sounds of today. Ok they lost the game to Bournemouth, us having 10 men for an hour. But the atmosphere around the club, the supporters toxic mood, the protests before and after the game - it's a club in trouble.

I can see them doing a Blackpool of years ago and becoming the next Sheffield United etc - stuck in league one for years with a biggish fanbase and loads of debt/problems.
