Believe I'm right in saying Everton are unbeaten under Allardyce so far, clearly they've shifted up the league quickly. We threw away a lead and managed to lose to them when they were crap, never mind now they've improved!
We're carrying a lot of injuries at the moment (funny how that happens when you're struggling a bit) so the team kinda picks itself based on whoever is fit. Against West Ham we looked decent going forward but a make-shift defence was all over the shop.
The league is so tight above us, a win from somewhere would jump us up it, but can't see it coming here.
The honeymoon had to come to an end eventually. Now the Sam novelty has finished, this is where we find out if he has moved from being a safe hands manager to one that can take a well financed team to challenging for trophies. I have doubts.
Obviously they're not in the same obscene league of spending as the likes of United and City, or even Liverpool to a lesser extent. But they're the best financed of the teams outside the top 6 if the owner's comments are any indication. They certainly have enough money to challenge for the domestic cups for example and aim to get their first silverware for over 20 years. And challenge the top 6 of the league even.
My point with Allardyce was always that he's about keeping teams safely in the top flight with an 'avoid losing first and foremost' attitude. If that is all Everton want then they have the right man, like they did with Moyes before he left. But I have a suspicion the new owner, and these days possibly the fans, want more. In which case they don't have the right man. For me anyway.
