TEAM NEWS
Bournemouth could have winger Junior Stanislas back from a hamstring injury for the visit of Liverpool on Sunday.

Striker Benik Afobe will miss out because of a similar problem, while Adam Smith and Harry Arter are not yet fit to return.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is expected to rotate his squad but he is without the suspended Emre Can.

Joe Allen is likely to start in central midfield, while Christian Benteke is a doubt with a minor injury.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head

  • Liverpool have never lost a competitive match against Bournemouth, winning six times and drawing twice.
  • The Cherries have scored just four goals in those eight meetings, and never more than once in a game.
  • Liverpool have twice beaten Bournemouth 1-0 at Anfield this season, once in the league and again in the Capital One Cup.
Bournemouth

  • The Cherries have won four of their last six games.
  • However, they have lost four of their seven most recent home fixtures. Prior to the weekend, only three clubs had suffered more home defeats this season than Bournemouth's tally of seven and only Everton and Villa have conceded more goals in front of their own fans.
  • Six of the starting XI at Aston Villa last weekend were playing for Bournemouth in League One three years ago.
  • Callum Wilson has scored five goals from just eight attempts at goal in the Premier League this season.
Liverpool

  • The Reds have suffered only one defeat in their last seven league games, scoring 20 goals in the process (W4, D2).
  • Liverpool won after a European fixture for only the second time in eight attempts this season at the expense of Stoke last weekend (W2, D4, L2).
  • Only the top three sides going into the weekend have a better away record than Liverpool (W7, D3, L6).
  • James Milner has been involved in 14 Premier League goals this season, scoring five and setting up nine. It's his best return for six seasons.
  • Daniel Sturridge could start four successive league games in a single season for the first time in two years.

We now have the fantastic position of working to set a new all time highest league finish knowing we're safe, and whatever we do now sets a benchmark for the future. Sitting 11th currently is altitude sickness inducing.

We've had a few run-ins with Liverpool in recent years, cup games and the like, and we're yet to register a result. We had a good crack at them early in the season and felt bloody hard done by at Anfield, I'm sure Howe will be replaying that game and those laughable Elphick / Benteke decisions to the squad prior to this, for a bit of added motivation perhaps.

Part 1 of our Scouse double header, Everton away to come in a couple weeks sandwiching Chelsea at home. Some good tough games.

Liverpool win I think. More to play for, a lot of their fans on twitter are enjoying the Europa League this season and so they'll want to be there again.

3-2 Liverpool with a late goal for the winner.

Been playing well recently but I think the EL endeavours will have taken it out of Liverpool a bit so I'll plump for 1 - 1.

Draw.
Think the likes of Skrtel, Toure, Flanagan, Smith, Ojo, Allen, Lucas, Stewart and Sturridge will start.

10 changes.

Ward (debut); Randall, Touré, Lucas, Smith; Allen, Stewart; Ibe, Firmino, Ojo; Sturridge.

Could be entertaining this.

Sturridge very, very effective yet again. First goal came off the rebound from his backheel shot, and he got the second goal himself making it 6 goals in his last 7 starts. It'll be pivotal for Klopp's tenure that he finds a way to play him and Origi together, if they both keep it up. Having one on the bench is a waste as things are right now.

Frustrating. Dodgy start but we eased ourselves in and starting looking handy, then sucker punched for 1-0.

Would like to see our handball pen shout again, had no view myself but it takes a lot for the folks at that end to get that animated. And of course immediately Liverpool break from that and score the second, sturridge left totally unmarked.

The excellent Josh King our only lively looking threat at the mo.

Liverpool happy to pick up out sloppy midfield passes and press forward from there, we're playing into their hands. Every time we do pop it over the top, King causes problems. That's the way to go.

The handball could have been given, although it would have been a bit harsh.

It felt like a slow half, somehow, maybe explained by our secong-string defence and midfield. Could say we're lucky to be 2-0 up despite not creating much, could say that Bournemouth should have defended better.

Btw, weren't Blackpool penalised a few seasons ago for fielding a weakened team? You could claim the same here about us.

Definitely a pen to be fair, holds his arm out and it hits it clean. Most of the times it'll be given.

You lucky, lucky bastards.
Deeply frustrated not to get something. Massive second half.
That fucking keeper Ward, where's he been hiding. Superb.

That Sakho goal line clearance with the bottom of his stubs, another fraction of an inch and it's in. That Sakho deflection thay almost got Wilson a goal seconds after coming on, Ward excellent to stop it. Grabban header pulled out he bottom corner from Ward. And last season, we'd have gotten two penalties today with those shouts, but this season they don't happen.

Hey ho, we just gave ourselves too much work to do with that first half.

Well, we did hit the post twice in the second half mate. Fair result in the end for me.

Switched to the other match at half-time, sounds like I missed an eventful 2nd half here... Anyway, happy with the points, the quest for the European spots stays alive.

We were very solid other than a couple of moments. It could've been a higher scoring game but I think the result was fair. All hand ball penalty shouts would've been extremely harsh if they'd been given.

I was very impressed with Sturridge, Allen and Ojo. Looking like we got a bit of strength in depth now and hopefully Klopp will do a good bit of business in the summer. I can certainly see the direction he wants to take us in with a good footballing style and he's starting to implement it.

Bournemouth are a good team and over both games against them they've done themselves well despite 0 points. I'm glad they're going to stay up. Nice touch with YNWA being played before kick off too. Very classy and likeable club.

The area of the pitch that Liverpool owned was central midfield and us trying to play through there and getting constantly caught was the reason thay first half was so poor for us. Joe Allen must take a lot of credit for that, he ran the show.

Once we realised there was some space to be had by going more direct, the game opened right up.

If Liverpool don't fancy Allen, I'd love him down here on that showing.

He's only got 1 year left on his contract and if he does go I can't see him going to a top top club so I think he'd be willing to join a club on the up with ambition so Bournemouth would certainly be an option, however, would he not be a very similar option to Surman?

Yes he'd be a direct upgrade on Surman or at least very strong competition I think.

Not that Surman is poor, there's a couple other regulars who we'd probably need to think about replacing first, if we do fancy ourselves as moving further forwards in future. For example that back four is the same back four we got promoted from league one with.

I'm sure Howe has a plan, replacing long term superb parts in two promotions and a comfortable survival is a delicate and risky job, not one to be done hastily.

Easy win with the B team. Bournemouth came at us a lot in 2nd but that was never going to be enough.

Surely Allen has to start in CM against the bitters? He was class again today.

Yeah Allen will start that game. Just up after drinking too much whisky last night so missed the match but looking forward to seeing the second string play on MOTD . Always like seeing Ojo in there and looking to see how Ward got on. Delighted they managed to prise a win as well when I was thinking a draw was on the cards in my prediction.

Next up the derby, bring it on! :box:

Ojo did well again today. So did Ward, made two class saves. Also had a few nervy moments but its expected for a young guy who hasn't played much this season.

Surprised Ward hasn't had more game time particularly in the cups since his loan got cancelled at Aberdeen and after some faffing about by Mignolet.

First half was desperately poor from our pov, I think our small squad combined with the intensity we normally play at has taken its toll, we've been looking so, so tired in the last few weeks and Liverpool took full advantage. Set pieces remain our mortal enemy and it continues to frustrate watching our headless chicken mentality to balls into the box.

Second half was better, we were still very open but created a fair few chances and with some better finishing could have grabbed a draw. Josh King was immense up top and really deserved his goal.

We need a good rest by the look of things but hopefully we can find a bit more of that tempo against Chelsea next week.

Really couldn't call how next season will go for us, stay fee of injuries and we could surprise a few but we badly need defensive reinforcements.

When I previously frequented this board (or TFF as it was), I am pretty sure I was able to intensely discuss a match day thread, twice per season, involving Bournemouth as they were stuck down at the same level as Vale. Their rise to where they are now has been nothing short of unbelievable and their fans shouldn't let a few tired end of season performances detract from what the club has achieved in defying the odds to survive and survive comfortably.

As for Liverpool, are we starting to see the Klopp effect taking hold of the club with their recent form? He's a top manager and I firmly believe that with a solid pre-season under him and him bringing in a few of 'his' players in (expect him to raid Dortmund in the summer, especially if Liverpool win the Europa League), Liverpool will be competing as a top 4 club next season and will be title challengers in the coming seasons

Did I say something funny? Or are you just struggling to accept that Liverpool may actually improve under their new manager whilst your current manager continues to drag you down?
