Two names. van Dijk and Jay Rod. Get the better of one and stop one of our own scoring against us and we should win this one. Burnley boys always come back to haunt us though
We weren't at our best yesterday. Played Defour on the left wing. No idea what that was about when we had a winger on the bench. Was saying to my other half that I didn't realise Marney was playing until he fouled a Saints player. Defour was like a fish out of water, Marney was awful (unusual for him) and had Hendrick on the wrong side as well.
Wouldn't say Southampton dominated, but gave a decent account of themselves. They have some pacy players with ability. They had a go at us from the start, which most teams don't tend to do. So fair play.
Southampton, to be fair though were far more of a threat. Yet again, with two midfielders out injured, it goes to show we need more players in midfield and on the wing this window.
Strange that many pundits didn't pick up on it, but the commentator on TV and I picked up on the Barton free kick. He delayed taking it and told Hendrick to get in the wall. Yes it took a slight deflection, but putting Hendrick in the wall unsighted Forster and unsettled their wall. That was the point. It's a well worn ploy by other teams, but something we don't usually do but it worked yesterday.
I was screaming at the TV when Southampton had the two late chances through Rodriguez and the other lad. It came directly from a brain fart from our right- back who, rather than maintaining possession; belted the ball straight into the Saints half and allowed them to counter attack. At that stage we should have been running down the clock in their channels, not gifting them possession. We do this far too often for my liking.
Bit unfair on Southampton, they didn't deserve to lose that game but then that's football and we can say that about numerous games this season ourselves.
