I saw T.A Was posting in another thread, so what's the situation with Football in Bury atm? Is there going to be 2 clubs playing side by side or are they going to get back together as one? Thanks.

There’s currently only one club in a league ready for next season and that’s AFC. A Bury supporters group with Bury fans fronting it have bought Gigg Lane out of admin but they have no team as they missed the deadline to have everything ready for the FA. The plan is from what we know that’s out in the open that AFC and the supporters group are in talks to merge but I don’t think it will be ready if successful for next season. There will need to be a vote on both sides to confirm that both sets of fans want the merger but that’s after AFC and the council do their due diligence because there are grants etc that are available towards the repair or improvements on the stadium but I believe most of the grants are only available if there is one club.

As always there are always people from both sides that don’t want a merger and want to go in it alone. There are people that hate AFC and believe they should never have been created and should have waited for Bury to come back as the club have never been liquidated.

However you have the other side that believe Bury FC will never be back morally because of the debts that the old club owe. They have also seen AFC have a very successful first season they have enjoyed the non-league scene and the small hooligan element is not with them. It’s much more family oriented at Radcliffe where they are ground sharing.

Then you have the people in the middle that just want Bury back mostly back at Gigg Lane. These include people who go to AFC currently and those that are not involved on either side currently.

Impossible to say what’s going to happen really. The town can’t sustain two clubs unless they stay quite low down the leagues and Gigg lane can’t be a step 5/6 ground forever as it’s not sustainable. There needs to be a merger but only on the right terms for both sides.

There’s lots that I have missed but it’s quite a boring repetitive topic at the moment. We’ve just gone past the 3 year mark since Bury FC last league game. So for me I’d like a line to drawn either way and everyone can move on.

Stockport County.
As a general football supporter with no involvement in poltics at the club and with the fans, just a football club carrying the Towns name back at Gigg Lane sounds ideal to me. trying to work it's way back up the pyramid. Hopefully ego's don't get in the way. I understand people wanting to perservere with the orginal Bury FC but with what AFC Bury have started off, already walking their way up like Macc are doing and Halifax, Wimbledon did etc, my hunch is that sounds a more logical plan. The move for AFC Bury to Gigg Lane from Radcliffe then seems a logical step. Maybe I'm looking at it too simplistically without knowing the politics.

Good luck either way.

Always have the banter with TA but it would be great for Bury to amalgamate and rise back as one and get back in the league in the next 5 years

It is very important Bury have just one team playing back in the town ( at Gigg lane ). So a merger is a must. People need to bury ( sorry for the pun ) there differences and get behind a club with a goal of getting back to the FL. Anyway good luck.

In reply to "Railway Blue" - Generally have a distrust of Sans Serif amongst the privileged Upper Cases.

In the case of Bury, the various initials are those of organisations controlled by the happy clappy, self righteous idiots whose attitude to the former chairman Stuart Day remained firmly tongue-in-rectum until he absconded, and have a sense of entitlement so great that they despise anyone else who does something positive - such as setting up a Phoenix club, gaining admission to a league and winning some games...

Interesting to read all the updates. Whilst I feel for Bury fans, the most important thing surely is to have a team playing in Bury again - preferably at Gigg Lane. Sometimes people have to be prepared to compromise to achieve their main goal. I hope they are able to pull this off. I'm sure once people have a team to support back again, they'll be less worried about which supporters' group controls what.

We have a team, a very successful SOLVENT one.
Why would we jump back into bed with a team (EST) run by a fair percentage of the old regime in a rackety old expensive to run ground which even EST reckon will cost 600k per year to run?
Have we learned nothing?
As for the ground being in Bury, a Bury MBC / AFC commissioned independent survey into the best way forward was best option a new purpose built 3.5k to 7.5k capacity ground as part of a multi sport enterprise on Market Street, 2 mins from the town centre.

Looks like Bury have voted through to merge the two clubs. I don’t know the politics behind it other than the contributions from Bury fans on here but just to say I really hope this goes well for you. Great to see them back at Gigg Lane regardless.

Good news for all involved if this goes through and they can get back to being one club.

The Radcliffe thing was only ever going to be short=lived. Mainly as that ground wouldnt have got thru' ground -grading as the club progressed thru the divisions. Would have had to move in with FCUM -the irony, or get a new ground built. At least this way any wavering supporters of the old club can turn up & support - no excuses now! Radcliffe b might suffer a loss of rent/revenue in 23-24 with this...
