If there were more qualified black managers/coaches, there would be more black managers and coaches in jobs. Simple as that, am I the only one who's sick of this conversation? The only black managers I can think of are Chris Powell and Paul Ince, neither of which are good managers. So they won't get many jobs in that case, will they? Produce a good manager and one will be employed. Simple as that...

To go wiith the actual topic, Campbell is a knob, as I'm sure most are aware at this point.

I'm sick of the conversation when it's Sol doing the talking, but that's more to do with him than the topic itself.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
I'd like to know which jobs Sol has applied for. Paul Ince wanted to get into management and he applied for a job at Macclesfield Town who were 20 games into a winless season and absolutely nailed on for relegation. I know that when Macc were eventually relegated Robbie Fowler was linked with the managers role because it was reported all over the place. Sol Campbell.. Not so much.

Sol actually had a fantastic opportunity to make his first steps when he joined Notts County. Everyone knew that Sven wasn't going to be hanging around at Meadow Lane for a decade and for his replacement, a seasoned england international with all of his honours and experience as well as a season playing for the club and learning the level would have probably been a very good fit.

But no. He got given a tough time by a couple of League Two forwards and walked away in a huff.

Does he want to be a manager or does he want to be parachuted into a well paid top job?

There's three routes into management. Be a manager already on the merry go round already, be a senior player at a club when the manager there leaves or be a player with enough gravitas to get a job, probably at a lower level at first.

Says it all that he applied for the Villa job, sorry, but no. He needs to start at a lower level first, but he's too arrogant to do so.

He got you lot promoted with one of the best squads in league 1, then got sacked when you were bottom of the Championship. He's doing about as expected at Huddersfield too. Doing average really, not particularly poor, but not exactly a good manager either.

A side he assembled himself after a mass clear out of dead wood.

We then just missed out on the play-offs in the Championship with practically the same squad as we had no money. There was a lot of turbulence at the club before his sacking, a lot that went on behind the scenes.

He's never going to manage England but he's a decent manager.

Doesn't he want to run as a Tory MP as well just to save paying taxes on his mansion? The guy is a proper plonker!

Let's join hands and take a moment to try and imagine what the universe looks like through Jase's eyes: A cognitive bubble with a diameter of about 1.5 metres, the horizon only as distant as his fingertips can reach. That spheroid full of particles bouncing off each other at random, percolating with no underlying order or reason, no governing forces, no greater design. A universe ruled by a physics engine that a SEN gold fish reared on MIDI Maze would think a little bit facile, simple as that....

One shouldn't mock the afflicted, of course. Did his mother smoke 150 Capstan Full Strengths a day whilst he was hanging out wombside? As a bairn was he was left locked in a Ford Sierra outside Safeways on a searing July afternoon? And then, just as he was about to expire, in those desperate seconds during which his suckling synapses were perishing by the thousand, did a man with negroid features (as we no longer refer to them), saunter by and do a wanker gesture? One can only speculate, via an aggravating rhetorical register, simple as that.....

Sooo, gonna make an argument about what I said, or are you simply going to post something all but confirming that you're a mindless idiot? Come back with some kind of cognitive argument, and you may be able to, shock horror on a forum I know, start a debate. Otherwise, continue in your ignorant bubble where you believe that your post represents anything resembling intelligence.

Pretty sure mate, the only other sites I've frequented as a poster are TFF and I was on Football Forums at one point. All as a Villa fan.

Your post was racist and stupid. I would like to know what a cognitive argument is, though.

It wasn't racist. It may be naïve, it may be incorrect, but it's not racist just because the subject matter is on race.

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
In an age when football clubs would metaphorically sell their grannies to get a couple of extra points on the table, and will beg steal and borrow any possible edge they can, the idea what clubs would look to discount a candidate as manager purely based on their skin colour seems pretty unlikely to me. Clubs and supporters care not one jot what nationality or skin colour their players happen to be so long as they're good, or the owners are so long as they put money into the club. We even have managers appointed who can barely speak a word of English because they've been successful elsewhere and clubs think/hope they will bring success to them.

If Sol wants to get into management, then the opportunity would be there for him, at the sort of club that would take a risk on someone totally unproven and new to management - lower league or more likely upper non league. Indeed he would potentially have an advantage in any interview at that level because of his notoriety. If he's good, opportunities would soon come for him higher up the ladder, such is the nature of clubs desperate for success.

The alternative route if Sol doesn't want to work his way up the leagues - is to work his way up the backroom staff at a big club from the low youth levels upwards. Look at Les Ferdinand, now a significant figure in QPR's management structure. He could likely move from that into a manager role if he so wished, like Chris Hughton who worked as a coach at Spurs and Newcastle for many years before jumping straight into higher placed managerial roles.

Sol was highly thought of at Pompey and would highly likely have had a coaching opportunity there I gather (working with Linvoy Primus), but he sued them for £1.7M instead and burnt that bridge. Notts County has already been covered.

Spurs and Arsenal aren't about to appoint Sol as manager any time soon I'm afraid.

Football clubs do silly things all of the time. A lot of them aren't very well run businesses.

This.

There's absolutely no incentive for clubs to discriminate on colour, the opposite in fact.

Um.... but some racist people think white people are inherently more intelligent than black people, so they wouldn't employ a black person to manage their football club. They'd think that they were making the best decision for the club.

Yet are far more likely to label their black players as "beasts" or "lazy" if they're black.

It's a pointless argument until we get some figures on the numbers of black British players that are getting their badges and applying for coaching positions. This isn't the USA, we haven't had a significant black population for hundreds of years, these are second and third generation immigrants we're talking about. There are next to no role models for them at that level of the game, be it in England or elsewhere, so it could just as easily be a case of less black players seeing management as an obvious route as it is white chairmen having no faith in them because they're black.

Chris Hughton. Chris Ramsey at QPR. Les Ferdinand a first-team coach at QPR. Terry Connor assistant manager at Ipswich. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink now manager of Burton. Edgar Davids was Barnet boss not so long ago.
