That was exactly my thoughts.

I am sad though, it means no more of this:

It's strange seeing the club sack a manager. It's been bloody ages since that happened. I don't like to see people lose their jobs but it's hard to defend the decision when you look at how shit we are.

We may go down, we may stay up but whatever happens, I hope we make a fight of it. Hopefully a new manager just might do that.

Wasn't there reports the club couldn't afford to sack him? If so, genuine question, has the future Everton income allowed the board to sack Burnett?

No idea. I'm not sure the FA Cup game has brought in that much. Perhaps Luton owed us money from when they took Still, who knows?

It won't be universally popular but Still in till the end of the season would get my vote. The players would at least work hard under him even if the quality isn't there.

Poor guy needed to be put out of his misery.
From what I saw of them at the Hive they were just too feeble as a team unit to compete in this division.

Just the prize money for the 2nd round + half the gate receipts for Everton would leave you with upwards of 100 grand I'd have thought?

I can't see a huge attendance at Everton. Think we'd make £50k or so. Burnett had 18 months left so sacking him would be double that probably.

I'm not too concerned with the financials, I trust the club. Just glad we can move forward.

Everton are a club that will get a decent attendance no matter who they play. They aren't like a Sunderland or someone where the attendance will be down 50% just because it's a lower league club in the cup.

We played at Goodison in the 3rd round 4 or 5 years ago and it wasnt far off a full house. 34,000 or something like that if I remember right. I reckon Dagenham will get s good payday from this.

Thank God he's finally gone. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a decent bloke but it's been fairly evident to most for the best part of a year that this was never going to work in the long term. Why on earth we gave him a 2 year extension in the summer when alternatives were available and a fresh approach was needed (and trust me, it was), I'm not quite sure. Someone like Danny Cowley would have fitted the bill superbly.

Still, it's over now and those bridges that have been seriously broken over the past 6 months in particular with supporters have started to mend already. I think on a short term deal, Stilly has to be the answer for me. Someone who knows the club, what it means to be a Dagger, and a bloke who can get the best out of this sorry lot and hopefully manage to sort us out.

Just to poke the Still fire, rumours are we're actively searching for a Hendon replacement... Love it if we jumped in and nicked Still ha. Would still to Dagenham be the most obvious managerial appointment if it happens?

Couldn't Dagenham just do with a completely fresh approach? I realise Still worked wonders with you in the past, but couldn't it do with a person coming in who've never worked at the club before?

Long-term, I agree, I'd want someone fresh but as a short-term fix, Still is the obvious choice. Knows the club, has a history of success and may be a better way to try and ensure we stay up.

I wouldn't want him here as manager too long though. We could do with a new face.

the problem for Dag & Red is while long-term thinking is better for them as a club short-term is vital.

Dagenham are abit like a macclesfield if they drop out the league getting back is going to be incredibly tough as they did very very well to get this far in first place.

So I could understand a short-term survival move like Still.

Also Still has been managing in League 2 for all of last season and until very recently this season, so should walk into Dagenham with up-to-date scouting reports under his arm. I know one of his main criticisms from Luton was that he never got to grips with League 2 but he must know the current division better than most of the other options.

I don't want John back personally, a 6 month deal I could get behind kind of but would rather us move on as a club. Paul Ince for me, did a similar job and did it well at Macclesfield.

Sorry to see Wayne go on a personal level as he is/was a nice bloke but it just wasn't working.

Paul Ince! That complete wanker would take some abuse from the terraces.

Agreed, you'd be hard pushed to see morecambe, Accrington and Dagenham ever coming back up if they went down, which means it's ever more important - the thought of being back in the conference has made me shudder just typing this. It's without a doubt the hardest league to get out of without a doubt - still would be a perfect shout - and with his contacts he could get a few loans in.

Newport have improved under Sheridan and Hartlepool did a miracle last season so it's certainly not too late with more than half the season to go - I also don't think it'll be a 50 points needed for safety season either

Nothing but good wishes from me. I do hope he takes his coaching staff and maybe a few of our players with him though...
