Calling All Computer Nerds!!

I recently found my old laptop and I'm quite curious to know what's stored on there, however it appears to be suffering from c*** syndrome, or black screen of death as it's more commonly known. The cursor is still movable, the screen is just black.

I tried changing the boot order to HDD as the primary boot mode, tried system repair and it went slightly beyond the black screen and to a pretty, colourful, gay screen where the cursor made its cameo but the screen itself didn't go any further.

The fact the screen went from black to colourful indicates it's not a hard drive issue I believe.

Can anyone shed any light as to why my laptop is being a bellend?

Not to sure on that exact issue but if you can't find a workaround then I would suggest downloading a version of Linux you can boot from a CD.

I had to do it two years ago and saved a shit load of my coursework.

Yes you can I just checked on google. When I did it on CD there were some really good walkthroughs. It was longwinded but I got there in the end, the relief when I got into my files was amazing!

Have you tried connecting to a monitor?

Could be a past overheating issue, so someone will have to open it up.

Connecting to a monitor will tell you if it's the graphics chip or the screen that's dead

Would connecting it to my TV with an HDMI be sufficient?

UPDATE:

I fannied around with the BIOS and changed the boot order so that hard drive is first, changed SATA to compatibility and now I'm at a blue screen and it's going through start up repair. Could take hours, I'm excited I could finally see what porn I've got stashed on this shitey laptop!

Fixed it...

Now my newer laptop is fucked. There's no options in the BIOS to boot. Sounds like the operation system is non existent.

Fuck my life.
