Chomp.

Lighten up will you. There's no sour grapes from me, you battered us off the park and were well deserving winners. We on the other hand were shocking.

I also went on to say that I had us down as mid table after the defeat and I think you are in the same boar. Maybe I'll be wrong but it's an opinion - wasn't personal or meant as an insult. I have full respect for Wimbledon.

I then had an attempt by a Womble to rub my nose in it like a petty teenager which I've made light of by picking out spelling errors. Nothing more.

Anyway do continue with your "arse" agenda if you wish.....

Where did I mention there was sour grapes from yourself?...... And what makes you think my original post was directed at you?

Cambridge fan continues to make an arse of himself.

can you tell me what the same boar is that we are both in, you want to check your spelling before you post.

Let's be honest, probably neither of us are going up this year. We are probably both going to be mid table. One of us might scrape playoffs, but it's unlikely.

However you cannot write a team off as definately mid table at the half way point. Remember York a couple years a go? Relegation zone at Christmas then they made the playoffs.

Also it is really annoying that every game we are written off because we are mid table, then we whoop your assess, then people back track.

If you played away every week I'd have you nailed on for Play Offs, but the simple fact you have to try to take the game to teams at home see's you come unstuck. Mid table is where we'll both end up.

Yep if a team sits in and hits on the break we cannot break them down at home. We are a better away side.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first trip to the Abbey, good old fashioned football ground and pretty full. 669 was a decent turnout and I bet every single womble was glad they made the journey. Away end is good for making noise, shame about that gap between the stand and the goal, an equal gap at both ends would be better. See you next season.

What's the latest on Gaffney from your end U's?

According to our manager, about a week ago a deal had been agreed for him to join us on a free but your Chairman changed his mind after Rory scored 2 aginst Orient. They've 'moved the goal posts' was the phrase our manager used. I don't think Clarke was particularly impressed with the sudden u-turn.

I assume that means you're now looking for a fee?

Gaffney was confused by the situation when interviewed after the game. All he knew was Cambridge had backtracked on the verbal agreement. He's really enjoying his football in Bristol and wants to sign, I got the feeling he was a bit upset at the way it's been handled by the people in power at United.

Is that pretty much the same story you're getting your end?

Gaffney has fitted in perfectly here at Rovers and we'd obviously like to keep him. He's a popular lad with the other players and the fans love him.

I think I'm right in saying he only has 4 months left on his contract?

It seems he's not wanted by your manager after he shipped him out on loan and originally agreed to his permanent transfer on a free. Gaffney himself really wants to join Rovers so I would have throught it was in everyones interest to get something agreed.

Unfortunately, Darrell Clarke said he has no money in his post match interview yesterday so we could be at stalemate.

Pretty much the same as above. Gaffney was back in Cambridge last night and will report to training tomorrow.

It would appear with don't have another striker lined up so Gaffney could get a start on Saturday away to Crawley but Shaun Derry will need to build bridges and quick with Gaffney. He may also have to swallow some pride and admit he may have got it wrong with Gaffney.

Unless you pay what we're asking, Gaffney will be with us until the end of the season.

Bit of a messy situation now really because everyone thought the deal was done. Of course until it's signed and sealed that's not the case.

I feel a bit sorry for Gaffney because he really wants to join Rovers and as far as he was concerned that had all been agreed.

It's going to be difficult for him to go back and play for a manager that clearly didn't want him a week ago and a Chairman that blocked his move after backtacking on a deal he'd agreed to. Even if he stays with you for the remainder of the season his heart might not be in it anymore.

Given his contract situation, if he doesn't sign for us now he might well join us for free in 4 months time.

I'd like to think something can be agreed because given what's gone before I think it would be in everyone's interests if the deal goes through.

I guess it all hinges on whether we have any money - according to Clarke we don't - and whether we're willing to pay what your Chairman is now asking.

Gaffney certainly seems like a good pro and one thing Derry is very good at is man management. Gaffney reports for training tomorrow and Rovers can cry all they want about us verbally agreeing the deal but like Gaffney said in his interview "that's football".

Maybe Williamson was due to sign but Gillingham pulled the plug when their striker got an injury ruling him out until the end of the season and now it's made Derry think twice.

If Gaffney feels like he can return and give his all, I'd much rather see him stay with us and join you in the summer.

I'd expect Williamson to rejoin us now if I'm honest. We only have Rory Donnelly as a fit forward, as Cody McDonald is out til around April, Luke Norris is coming back from injury and hobbled off yesterday and Dominic Samuel played the last game of his loan spell yesterday as well. We play two up front so even if Samuel or Norris are available for thursday night then we'd need at least one more forward option.

I do agree Gaffney does seem like a model pro but it will still be difficult to give his all for a manager that wanted rid and a Chairman that pulled the plug on a move he wanted to happen.

I'm sure he'd go out and do his best but would his heart really be in it?

It's a gamble because he wants to join Rovers and probably will in the summer even if he doesn't in January.

However, I don't now think you're likely to let him go for free and our manager has said we don't have any money, so it could be that he does indeed see out his contract with you.

I think we'll probably know one way or the other by the end of the week.

It's a bigger gamble by Derry to lose the fans if he doesn't recall Gaffney and have a further look at him. Worst case scenario he comes back, doesn't play well we can always do a deal at the end of Jan. If he doesn't, the fans will slaughter him if results go pear shaped in Jan.

Right now we have Corr, Simpson and Slew. Corr playing with an injury, Simpson not an out and out striker and Slew has scored 1 goal in a year and has already been told to find another club.

I think Derry has realised we need Gaffney right now, so as far as I am concerned, you either pay up or it's the end of discussions.

As harsh as it may sound for Gaffney and Rovers, we need to look after our interests. We are short up front (as outlined) so we need a striker. Rovers are a play off rival (if we are still following those ambitions) and you don't strengthen a rival. We won't be able to command much of a fee now anyway so situation won't be much different to that in 6 months time (aside from wages in that period which I imagine will be quite low). As harsh as it sounds, we're not in the business of making other parties happy. ;-)

Derry does need to swallow some pride though in order for us to get him playing well for us again. Let's see, but it's definitely hanging in the balance as to where he ends up this January.
