Can Leicester carry on their form next season, or just a flash in the pan?

What do you guys think? They have been consistent all season but lack quality players to compete in the Champions League as well as the league next season.

Not a chance. Mid Table at best imo, they could well go down.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
It depends on how well they cope with CL football taking the focus away from the League. Look at Liverpool. Although they did bottle it, they were still well in the hunt with no European distractions and then, well, weren't.

Then there's the individual players. Is Vardy a 'one season wonder'? Ditto Mahrez. What if their agents are looking for moves for more money and all the other shit that goes on in football.

And it depends if they can have the same incredible run with injuries, or rather the lack of them.

So, basically, ask me next March.

That's a Pagnell answer if ever I've seen one, the whole point of the thread is to make a prediction, and basically you've just said 'well, they could do well, or they could not'...

Won 14 of the last 16 games, what a superb bottle job. Now if you want to talk about bottle jobs, how about this year where City should have walked away with this league, but for most of the season went around the grounds picking their arses.

I'm really intrigued to see the reinforcements they bring in and how changing the team effects cohesion.

I think they'll be 7-8th.

Let's not forget the over £100m net spend City had this season.

This will be the best chance for Mahrez and kantes agents to get them big money moves. they'll be pushing for it this summer most likely. Personally i think they'll finish bottom half and be out of the ECL in the group stage (depending on their draw of course)

I hope not however i hope they can hold on to their top players and strengthen the squad over the summer to have a real crack at repeating. Chelsea and City will both be stronger next season. Spurs will be better for their young squad having another years experience. Arsenal might actually buy a striker and who knows what to expect from United. It would be great if there's a big 6 way scrap for the title next season.

Add to that the mid table clubs Liverpool and Southampton. Everton supposedly have some cash too. West Ham are going to be in Europe, have a New Big free stadium and the new TV deal to attract more players.

Probably not. A whole heap of brilliant circumstances have aligned to create this season for them.
Will any Leicester fan particularly care if they aren't running away with the title again, and perhaps are midtable somewhere? I doubt it.
A title that can never be taken away from them, an experience of Champions League football, and a lifetime of memories and bragging rights.

Yes. A better question would be asking the likelihood of a similar title win in the future, even amongst clubs that usually languish around midtable.

People are already rushing to put Leicester down by insisting they're back to being shit again next year, even before they've won the league. Typically, a lot of people are happy for their success until they achieve the ultimate goal.

I already asked this in the other thread. At this stage it's almost impossible to predict given that we don't know who they will bring in and, dare I say it, lose to other clubs. They won't challenge for the league again, of that I'm almost certain, so whatever happens it will be a let down in comparison to this campaign. I also don't believe they will finish top 4. If I were to make a guess, with their additional games, I'd say top half, with a shot at Europa but they proved everyone spectacularly wrong this season so who knows.

I doubt even Leicester's own fans will have any expectations for next season, I am sure they will just enjoy the ride of being Champions and the European tour they will go on.

The major problem Leicester will have is if some of their star players are also thinking that this is a bit of a 'freakish' season and unlikely to happen again so, as has been said above, they view this as their one big opportunity to get a big money deal. If that is the case and there is an exodus then it could be a long season in the bottom half of the table. If they can keep most of the squad together, however, and also add a few faces to ensure they have a squad able to cope with the additional European games, then I see no reason why they can't compete in the top 8

No doubt they've acquired some clingers on this year, who will expect a repeat next season.

If they're in a relegation battle for the whole of next season, does Ranieri get the boot?

Unless Leicester lose like half of their squad this summer, there's no way they'll be in a relegation fight. They're not top of the league by accident, they've got a great blend of players and a magnificent set of doctors. I think there's a chance Kante and Mahrez could take advantage of their meteoric rises to get big moves, but even that wouldn't be enough to reverse their position, they're too good at the back. Be very interested to see how much they spend in the summer. They might even end up stronger!!!

Agree with Smat, no way in hell will they be relegated. Although, asking purely hypothetically, has a team even won a league title and been relegated the following season?

Yeah Man City in the 30s. Only team to manage it in England I think.

i honestly think the first to go will be the manager. The italy job becons. It he goes their could be a few players who might think this is a flash in the pan.

I hope not, the more competative the league is the better the football is. Maybe they'll do a forest, and win the champions league, back to back....:)

Unbelievable.

Let's write Leicester off all season, Oh wait they've won the league, let's start writing them off for next season.

They're the best team in the league, they will be fine. So what if they lose some players? the extra cash they will have and the lure of the Champions League will help them attract good (possibly better) players.

I reckon in and around the Europa spots.

The encouraging thing for me about them is that they've had to adapt time and time again. They were free flowing, and got a reward for keeping a clean sheet against Palace if people remember, clean sheets were that rare. In March they had a succession of 1-0s, Ranieri knows how to mix it up. Tactically, I don't think they'll be found out.

Good recruitment is necessary, I think the squad was lucky to survive with no major injuries etc. this year, that'll be even more true if they can manage that next year. Don't think they'll lose many players to be honest.

However, I do think the big clubs will be fighting again next year, Spurs and Leicester have been relatively unchallenged for a while now. Every big team below them has underperformed really.
