I remember when we beat you three times in three months at Vale Park. Hopefully we'll see something similar this time... (although you can beat us 6-0 in the Pizza Trophy and won't care)

I vaguely remember that, was that when you had Ashton and Hulse up front? To be honest for most of the time this has seemed a fixture that favours the away side, we’ve always been pretty good at Gresty Road and yourselves at VP. Hopefully we can agree a reasonable price for this and encourage as many as possible to go along.

Ditto for Pizza Trophy, the sooner we are out of that better as far as I’m concerned.

The last time we were due to play Sheffield United in a pre-season friendly it got cancelled on police advice because the previous year there was too much scrapping.

Such an odd match against Bristol Rovers. We played our reserves, 11 changes from the Sunderland win. Not sure if Bristol Rovers had their full strength team out but they certainly have some great attacking names in their squad.

However, it was like a pre-season friendly. Neither team seemed to really care about the match and I spent most of it trying to stay awake. Luke Thomas looked like the only player that wanted to attack for them.

Please can someone take Harness, Lee Evans and Jackson off us please? (I said please twice!!! :))

I remember going about 30 years unbeaten against you, doesn`t make any difference in a one off game suxh as this. The target from Crewe fans should be to try and bring over a 1000 on the 20 minute journey to Boslem.

I don't care if we take 50, it would just be nice to get in to the third round

Our game at Sheffield United is on the Wednesday, they play Sunday afternoon and also the Saturday lunch time so they'll make tonnes of changes for our game.

Crewe game on the Tuesday with prices still to be announced. I hope Vale and Crewe can be reasonable with that element and am sure there can be a suitable arrangement. Guessing with Stoke also at home in this round they are taking one for the team and moving to the Wednesday as doubt Staffs Police would want to deal with us, Stoke and Crewe all in one night.

I'm sure they can manage given they coped with Vale, Stoke and West Brom in the first round.

Crewe up next for us Tuesday night. I’m of the mind for this that we go with as strong a lineup as possible and try to get a chance at a real big one in the third round. Tough call though with Oxford away Saturday who are obviously flying right now. Looking forward to it, don’t think we’ve played them since before the Covid lockdowns happened.

Realistically we should win the game being a higher division team at home but Crewe seem on an upward trajectory themselves again now so it won’t be easy. Maybe give Alfie Devine a longer run in this one possible even start after his brief cameo yesterday.

Stevenage at home for us on Tuesday. Who would EVER have though that could possibly turn out to be a "top of the League 1 clash"?
Might even attract more than 3,000 crowd!

An away end sell-out at Sheffield United for us.

Be surprised if we didn't make two or three changes ourselves. Can pretty much guarantee Jackson won't play so Mitchell will come in for his full debut. I'd personally go with Walker for House, Brown for Burroughs and perhaps even giving Erhahon or Hamilton a rest as well with the game being a day later than most and a long trip to Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

Go on, play your first choice players. You know you want to progress in the buffalo cup

Think a few players ran themselves into the ground yesterday and we don't have a big squad so Stevenage will be difficult.
Just glad its at home.

Intriguing game at Vale on Tuesday in the A500 not really a derby.

We’ve had Crewe’s number in recent meetings and obviously go into this big favourites but even when Crewe have been good and we’ve not been as good we’ve beaten them so can’t take anything for granted.

Obviously bizarre ticket situation with Crewe limited to just over 1000 and us with 2 stands open with a clash with Stoke at home and Crewe having some trouble of late at games. Interesting to know what’s caused the decisions made there.

In terms of the game momentum is key, we’ve taken 10 league points in the 2.5 weeks since the draw and keeping that going is the main thing, still think we will make a few changes, great opportunity to debut Alfie Devine here who is a really exciting loan signing being in the cusp of Spurs first team, would love to see him, Arblaster and Chislett together in midfield with Ojo in the two behind the striker formation with two holding. Imagine Wilson will be rested maybe with Thomas up top.

Big game Saturday but a win here and plumb draw would be a real boost going into that I guess.

I doubt we’ve got it in us to mount a play-off challenge this season - as such, I’d like us to try and take this seriously.

I mean, sure, the manager’s said we’re taking it seriously, but we always used to say that even when we’d put out the stiffs, so the truth of the matter remains to be seen.

Sutton have seemingly had a shite start to the season (as opposed to our mediocre one) so sometimes a cup run can be exactly the tonic some sides need to distract from poor league form.

The “old boy” curse is well in SUFC’s favour here, with no less than 3 ex-WW in the Sutton squad…in fact we’ve got another currently on loan with them, but I’m assuming we wouldn’t let him play against us.

Anyway, on paper a winnable tie but I’m sure they’ll see it that way too.

Well so much for that, apparently we were wank tonight.

Lots of possession and 17 shots on goal, but no actual goals, so…

Wasted opportunity. Oh well.

Into the hat for the next round. Not a great performance first half and to be honest if anyone would score it would have been Crewe. Once we made some changes and brought on our starters we took over as expected, could and maybe should have won it normal time but got there on penalties.

Some absolute shockers from Crewe in the shootout. I’ve never seen a team miss their first four in a row before, one of which was a proper moonball.

Quite a poor game, we only made a few changes but no Nombe and no real bite, despite having more possession.
Five good penalties the difference.
Vale or Posh in the next round I expect.

Oh dear god, I’m getting flashbacks of a Tuesday night tinpot trophy game away to Gills, when both sides competed to see who could take some of the worst penalties I’ve seen in professional football.

The numbers for tonight. Of note for L1 it’s

  1. Exeter - Ball 9
  2. Peterborough - Ball 21
  3. Vale - Ball 22
  4. Lincoln - Ball 32 if they get through tonight
No disrespect to any of the other L1 clubs but no thanks on any of you in the third round as am sure same will be said for us. Give me Man Utd or Arsenal away.

Great atmosphere in the rammed Hamil End last night, first time in there and bonkers we used to give that to the away fans compared to what we have in the Bycars!

Made a few changes with four debutants, two being from the youth team which was good to see, thought Shorrock struggled a little but is only just 16, liked Rhys Walters though, he kept it simple but didn't mess up.

First half Crewe started well but it settled into a pattern of both sides spending much of it knocking it around their own half.

Second half we made the changes with Wilson, Blaster, Massey on and then Plant and Chislett and it was all one way traffic, somehow two goal line clearances at the end and penalties it was.

Crewe managed to miss all 4 with us only missing the 1 and into the hat.

First time through in round 3 since 2010! Hopefully a plumb tie.

6 unbeaten, 4 clean sheets in 5, been a strange old season but a great start nonetheless.

What I will note is how good of a loan Ollie Arblaster is, I have always looked on in frustration as we never seen to get a decent loan to work out whilst Bristol Rovers get Anderson or Newport Twine etc but finally we've fallen on a really good one, he is unbelievable for this level, wont be many, if any better loanees this season in the division, he is arguably the best midfielder in terms of quality we've had since being in the second tier, Sheff United fans were buzzing about him but you always seem to get that when you loan one from a parent club's fans but he is an absolute joy to watch and we have to enjoy him whilst we have him... going to be a nervous January that's for sure. 19 years old and just comes on last night and again controls the whole midfield.

Any one of Arsenal, Brighton, Crystal Palace, Everton, West Ham, Cardiff, Middlesbrough, Norwich or AFC Wimbledon away, providing they all get through.

Failing that, any Premier League side at home or any of the local ones away.

Championship teams can f*ck right off. Had too many shite draws over the years against the likes of Scunthorpe, Sheffield United and Wednesday, Huddersfield, Burnley etc..

Everton Away if they progress for a final visit to Goodison and rekindle Giant Killing memories of 96.

Liverpool or Newcastle as two grounds I haven't done

Arsenal or Chelsea maybe away but more of an arse to get to on a weeknight.

Will get Bradford Away.

If Crewe missed 4 penalties then Connor Ripley has got be the best keeper in league one.
