The two relegated sides faced each other at the Cardiff City stadium, in what many saw as an early promotion 6-pointer. A crowd of almost 22,000 packed into the ground to spectate what was a fantastic match for the neutral.
After a Kenwyne Jones's header was cleared off the line within 2 minutes, Cardiff continued to apply the pressure. It only took the Bluebirds 4 minutes break the deadlock, with Joe Ralls winning the ball midway in the Norwich half, skipping past two challenges before firing low from the edge of the box, past John Ruddy's scrambling arms. But Cardiff didn't let up there, continuous pressure led to Jones playing ex Norwich winger Anthony Pilkington down the wing, who's cross back across the goal set up Aron Gunnarson, who slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner on 22 minutes. Even after the second goal, City continued to apply pressure, Peter Whittingham and Kiko Macheda going close near the 30 minute mark.
But as we all know, no team will dominate all 90 minutes, and towards the end of the first half, Norwich started to gain control of the match, and when Bradley Johnson slid a neat pass into Kyle Lafferty, it was David Marshall who needed to pull of a smart save at the far post. However after the break Norwich continued their pressure, but didn't test Marshall's goal until the 54th minute, when Wes Hoolahan played a smart ball into Lewis Grabben, who's turning shot fell straight into the path of Martin Olsson, who blasted the ball past Marshall and halving City's advantage. And only four minutes later, they had leveled the game with Marshall once again, making a superb save, only for the defense to be caught napping and letting Wes Hoolahan tap in a rebound.
It's at this point that most teams would change something, and make a change to create a spark, or provide defensive cover. And in the 71st minute a corner was whipped in, flicked on by Jos Hooiveld and touched in by Michael Turner from a few yards out. But Norwich continued to dominate, this was proved in the 87th minute where Cameron Jerome was slid through into the box, rounded the keeper and killed off the game, to a series of boos surrounding the stadium.
This has led to reports that a victory against Middlesbrough is a must, or else Ole and his backroom staff may be left looking for a new job. However Tony Pulis has refused to answer questions about taking the helm at the City stadium. But one thing is for sure, Ole's time is limited!
