New Carlisle United boss Keith Curle will take charge of his first home game for the Cumbrians this Saturday as struggling Tranmere Rovers are welcomed to Brunton Park. Keith Curle has a major task on his hands as Carlisle are without a win this season in the league, and after relegation from League One, are now four points adrift at the bottom of League 2. Tranmere also arrive at Brunton Park in poor form, with not having a win in their last four league games leaving them lying in 18th place in the League 2 table, likewise, after relegation from League 1. In the 2013/14 season Carlisle won their home game 4-1 with a certain ex Manchester United player Tom Lawrence scoring two delightful goals. The game at Prenton Park ended as a 0-0 draw with both teams fighting for survival. The season before, both teams won their games away from home.

Carlisle are without long term absentees Matty Robson and Courtney Meppen-Walter (both knee) as well as centre half Sean O'Hanlon missing out with a toe injury. Antony Sweeney, who has captained the team in recent weeks, could also miss out as Carlisle are yet to discover the extent of his shoulder injury picked up against Mansfield on Saturday, and former caretaker boss Paul Thirlwell could return to the side after suspension, to help ease Carlisle's defensive injury crisis. Matt Hill is a long term absentee for Tranmere after having surgery on his achilies. Danny Woodards will also miss out, and it is unknown whether West Ham loanee Matthias Fanimo will have recovered from a sore groin.

Last weekend Curle declared Carlisle's first half performance to be the old Carlisle United in which they played a 3-5-2 formation and were three down by half time in a shocking 45 minutes of football. Carlisle came out as a completely different side in the second half after Curle's first team talk and switched to a 4-4-2 formation and almost got a point out of the game after an excellent second half display, which is why i think Curle will stick with the 4-4-2 formation for the game this Saturday. Tranmere are likely to stick with their 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 system in which they have played for the majority of the season so far.

Personally, i feel that with a new boss to impress Carlisle will be desperate to get their first three points of the season, and i fancy them to do that at home to Tranmere this weekend, hopefully this is the start of a good run for Carlisle United!
