Need to win this game, don't really care if it's another scrappy perfromance. Would set us up perfectly for the York game, and would increase the gap between us and the bottom two.

Exeter are on a very poor run of form, and have little to play for, which should work in our favour.

I'd stick with the same team from midweek, that's if Troy can hack 3 games in 7 days.

We're rubbish. Have won 1 in like 10 matches. Losing an incredible talent like Matt Grimes can do that to you. We just haven't managed to recover since his departure.

Hoping for a win, expecting a draw, will cry with a loss.

It's just so far to travel to watch us play sh!t and lose.

If Carlisle were proper chaps they'd let us win.

We used to always have to travel down to Exeter to never see us win so you can usually repay the favour.

My poor dad once went down back in 1996/7 I think it was for a midweek game only to see us lose in the last few minutes of the game and end up back home at 6am the following day......fool that he was, although years later he also went down and seen us win in the last seconds in a midweek game so it evened out.

only trip I ever made to Exeter was in 2000 and I only got as far as Birmingham when we got stuck in traffic for 4-5 hours and had to return home..........never got the full way.

Is my first game for 15 months as I have to go to help my dad who has slipped a disc

Sorry Exeter, we've used up all our 'be nice to the opposition' points for this year... we used most of them on Wycombe the other week, we were a delight to them.

I think we need go back to the ugly but effective performances we were putting in a couple of weeks back, and to an extent, on Tuesday. Anthony Griffith will be key to this, so apart fro Troy... who might miss this one, same line-up as Tuesday I'm thinking. We can play CMW in defence instead. We'll not be able to keep a clean sheet of course without Troy, but hopefully we can score a couple and keep goals conceded to one.

Hopefully Exeter are doing the whole, travel on the Friday, stay in a nice hotel Friday night, thing. That always seems to backfire on the teams that do it. Have a lovely weekend only ruined by the fact you have to play a game of football in the middle.

We always end teams bad runs and we never (or very rarely) get back to back results at home.

Carlisle 0-2 Exeter
Troy or no Troy.

Every team does this when they play us, unless it's someone like Hartlepool who are only an hour & a half away.

that is true I still have to laugh at the likes of Huddersfield claiming it to be a long journey

I'd like us one day to just drag the team up at 6am for a long trip and see how it works......they won't like it, but maybe they'd appreciate a performance more if they had a horrendous effort to play the game.

also if TAH is unavailable, should he not just try this Blyth lad? If you lot are automatically saying we're 2 goals down with anyone else taking his place is it not just worth a gamble of trying him and seeing if by chance he did work.

Well I'll be making the trip. Doing it in a day which will be a bit tiring.

Went to the last one up at Carlisle. 4-1 defeat and relegated... That was fun.

We were looking at the league one playoffs that day. Just fell short in the end.

How times change in such a short space of time. :(

If I remember rightly we'd already dropped off the pace a bit and that win against Exeter was just one last glimmer of hope so that we still had an outside chance on the final day.

Fucking Stevenage :( We were due to play them earlier on in the season when we were on a roll and they had injuries, it was a cold night and someone at Stevenage 'forgot' to put the covers on the pitch so the game was postponed until Stevenage had all their players back and we were the ones with injuries. IIRC Mark Beck made his debut in the rearranged match, which we lost, or his first appearance on the bench at least.

Not sure whether I agree with you, or with Chris Lumsdon, but Lummy was saying during the Cheltenham match that he felt if you threw him in when he wasn't ready and he had a nightmare, he'd seen players never recover from a horrible debut. I don't see that he would be slated if he did look off the pace and was responsible for us conceding, but Lumsdon speaks from experience.

One change from the midweek game. Grainger back in after suspension for Brough, and he gets the captains armband back. Interesting, Brough was my man of the match against Cheltenham.

1-0 down. We'll not get anything from this game. Exeter have been absolutely dominant and there's a gulf in class between the two teams

I'm starting to change my opinion of you lot staying up if there really is a gulf in class. You're playing Exeter mate not Shrewsbury or Bury!

Really??

I'm very negative but i thought we were well on top in the first half.

The second half we were terrible.

Yeah I thought we were the better side for most of the game, but Exeter were quite good. Our defence is embarrassing, shouldn't have dropped Brough for Grainger, even if he is the captain. Attacking wise we were good, and should have got more than 1 goal.

Exeter were always gonna score on the counter, they looked dangerous all game on the break.

We weren't actually that bad overall I don't think, just we looked like a Conference team playing to the best of our ability.

Exeter passed the ball around at will, and looked to just be enjoying themselves because their opponents were no match for them. They had players who could pull of moves we could only dream off.

As Vanni says, it's not like Exeter are the Chelsea of the lower leagues, they're probably your typical League 2 team. If we can't give them a real contest then we can't really expect to survive in this division.

I would say it was a 2-1 with an added goal at the death rather than a 3-1. We were always likely to be caught 5 against 1 on the counter when we started playing the novel 3-1-6 formation we did for the last 10 minutes.

Well i've seen them for the first time and i think 3 words instantly came into my mind the entire match.

Left F*cking Winger

Man alive do we ever need a left winger, infact its disgraceful we don't have one because when i was going 15 months ago we needed a left bloody winger and here we are 15 months later and STILL have not bothered.

and because of that we're such a one dimensional wreck of a side...hoof it to the right wing, hoof it to the right wing, hoof it to the right wing etc, etc etc the entire 90 minutes was spent trying aimlessly to get the ball to Amoo and pray he did something with it and i think the left side only touched the ball about 3 times in the entire match.

Carlisle were lucky first half in respect amoo had one of his 'can be bothered' games so at least for a while he caused them problems, but over the course of the game as you''d expect Exeter block out that attack and then we were left with no options at all.

Its not all bad, i think, the 2 forwards look useful, Dempsey looks a class above the rest and while the centre backs are basic they can both do. But the team is horrific in the wide positions, both full backs look useless, the left wing is completely non-existant and the right wing has to be the focus of the entire attack and that currently is relying on an Amoo who swings from decent to terrible far too much to be reliant on him as your only creativity.

oh and well done to that Griffiths for putting in one of the single worst 'first view' performances i've ever seen, he was absolute dog sh*te, looked unfit, lazy, completely knackered after 2 minutes, it was crying out for him to be taken off from 5 minutes into the game, alas Curle waited until his total and utter lack of anything helped cost us 2 goals.....at least i can now see exactly why a player we just signed had already been ousted away from the first team after a month.

Not good and is alot of problems, but i think we could have a chance if we could sign a new left winger and right back, possibly also a left back....the centre isnt too bad, but there is such an imbalance over the entire team we just have to resort to aimless lumps as there isn't a teamwork or balance to do much else.

although can i also say :fl: to those ridiculous corners.....what on earth is that bullsh*t

As for left back Dave a lot of people were surprised Brough didn't continue in that role, he had a really good game against Cheltenham. Young at right back, after a positive start has looked progressively worse. We miss Connor Brown, but of course he was good so Oldham wanted him back.

We are looking for a left winger, I think we're in talks with one, but we've been talks with several over the last couple of months not to get anywhere. Gillies has come back into contention, and we've seen flashes of what he's capable off in previous games he's played, but you're right that we never passed to the right wing, who knows what Gillies might have done, after he came on the tactic was still to hoof the ball to a spot about 20 yards ahead of Amoo and hope he can run onto it, beat five men and put a killer cross in.

Agree with most of that, most of our quality is in the centre. Grainger at left back is too slow, most wingers in this league take him on with ease. Young at right back has gotten worse in recent weeks and is not good enough defensively, and can't pass the ball 10 yards. I like Sweeney but he isn't a winger, and was lost yesterday. Then he was replaced by Gillies who was just as bad, offered little on that side. Amoo was decent yesterday, and was a threat for periods of the game.

Rigg and Wyke are a good partnership up front, and they'd be even better with creative players feeding them chances. Troy and O'Hanlon were fairly solid, as was Dempsey in midfield.

Not any more. The target has picked up an injury at his parent club so that deal is dead in the water.

In all honesty I thought Carlisle were poor and we were in control for much of the game. We had some players who just ran rings around the Carlisle players and they just couldn't get near us at times. First time we've played well in a long while.
Alex Nicholls(#23) my man of the match. Ribeiro(#6) also played very well.
