I presume he means coach/assistant rather than manager!?

It doesn't seem like that! It seems he is saying given the right 'tools' he can do a better job than any other in the PL...laughable really.

I do feel a little sorry for you him because he appears to be clueless and deluded. I'll believe he's the best coach in the Premier League when I see it!

I was saying for the last several years that Ashley was the problem at Newcastle and it all just got deflected onto the manager at the time, I know many were pleased when Pardew left but the first thing I said when he left is that Ashley will give the job to Carver.
Carver is another Terry Connor, they may be the best in the world at setting the cones out and bringing the water bottles out for training but you could fit what they know about tactics on a postage stamp.
Newcastle are fortunate they have 35 points otherwise they would be certainties for the drop, its still gonna be touch and go for them and two relegations in the space of about 6 years is almost unthinkable. As long as Ashley keeps getting his money it won't change, the only way you can affect these people is by hitting them where it hurts in the pocket.

He probably is one of the best coaches in the Premiership, has a great reputation. Managing is a totally different kettle of fish though, and his inexperience is showing.

great analysis :2thumb:

Shame he lost his coaching job, but he appears to be the definition of incompetent. So meh, probably for the best really. Steve Stone gave me the V sign about 20 years ago so I consider his sacking to be justice for me personally tbh.

Not sure what to make about this. Took probably the best squad in the Championship last season to the top of the league in Feb with significant reinforcements from the Jan window. And then inexplicably imploded to the point where they couldn't beg or steal a result against the poorest struggling sides.

He seems to have had great runs and really poor runs throughout his career, is that fair to say.

Always had a reputation as a good coach, which I guess is what Newcastle want within their structure and recruitment policy, so perhaps Schteve is more suited than others.

Well aye, just heard them for the first time saying 'to be confirmed' as opposed to expected to etc.

And yeah, after his last season I think its a very odd move

Oddly reading that McLaren has actually been put on the Board of Directors too.

Ian Cathro has moved from Valencia as coach to assistant coach at Newcastle. Dunno why he came back home to then move to Newcastle, but he'll do well there with McLaren and I think Newcastle may have a decent season coming up.

Yeah i think you're right. bad news for the newly promoted teams that Villa an Newcastle look like they might be getting their shit together. 2 less vulnerable teams they can target

Agree with the above - Newcastle are starting to get their act together off the pitch which can only benefit them on the pitch too.

If they can persuade Charlie Austin to move up North they could end up having a half decent season.

If Newcastle do well - They'll do very well. However, if McClaren comes under any sort of pressure then he'll crumble, exactly like he did with us at the end of last season.

Carver would have been a 'good fit' at Villa Park, imo.
But they've gone and signed up Ray Wilkins. I think that brings the total upto 5 Assistant coaches at VP.:eyes:
