Happy to see Atleti get through, hope they go on to win it now.

That decision to give them a penalty rather than a free kick was one of the worst decisions I have ever seen, by the way.

Fraudiola tactically outwitted yet again as soon as he comes up against a proper side.

Just need Man City in the final now for an unexpected winner.

Has there ever been a more extreme defensive team in the history of football? It's compelling to watch. 28% possession. Staggering.

They beat Real Vallecano (4th bottom) at home at the weekend - had 30-odd% possession. It's just an amazing way to approach football in an era with such possession-hungry sides like Barca and Bayern.

Spanish clubs now won 13 of 13 knockout ties v non Spanish clubs this season. 44 of 47 in last three seasons.

That's ridiculous.

Indeed. I'm no City fan but I utterly despise Real so hope they get through and get beat from Atletico in the final.

I've said this before to some people, and got laughed off.

Guardiola has not done a good job at Bayern. Every time he comes up against a good side, he loses. Some people may argue that there is no shame in losing to Barcelona or Real, but there is in the manner he lost them in. 3-0 and 4-0. This team is a group of several World Cup winners, from Xabi Alonso, to Thomas Muller, to Manuel Neuer, to Jerome Boateng, the list goes on. This team is a great side that should be competing to see if its really better than the Bayern of the 1970's, and now we'll never really know as they didn't have the manager to prove that. They also have the 2 best full backs in the world, and the 2nd best striker in the world. Easily a better team than Real Madrid on paper. Also, what's with getting rid of iconic players such as Schweinsteiger and then replace them with Spaniards that are not good enough to play for Bayern? Bernat to me was a weird transfer, as was Xabi Alonso (although Alonso was good enough to play for Bayern)

A World Cup winning side with the best full backs in the world and the 2nd best striker and they've won 1 European cup in the last 5 years and haven't been to the final in 3 years. Fraudiola indeed. Was great at Barcelona but he's easy to beat in a tactics affair.

Not as hideous as any final involving City. Its the lesser of two evils IMO.
Nah fuck that. If it's Real in the final it's gonna be constant diving, moaning at the ref and there'll be more emphasis on trying to get players sent off than scoring goals.

I rather see City in the final to be honest. We've already seen a Real and Atleti final. I also can't stand Perez, so I don't want Real in any sort of final.

Guardiola has failed at Bayern then, imo. They shunted a treble-winning manager for him (tbf they didn't know he was going to win the treble at the time), and he's not managed to even make one final out of three with an extremely powerful squad.

What would constitute success at City for him?

Surely somebody "bigger" will come in for Simeone at some point but then I guess Madrid is his home having played there as a player for a long time as well as being a fine manager for them?

I think he'll stay as long as Atletico are competetive. They're generally a selling club but manage to replace quality with quality a lot of the time, but there'll come a time when player sales take their toll unless the club has a change of policy.

Does his style of football (as effective as it is) make a move to one of the real "big boys" (Bayern, Barca, Real etc) a non-starter?
