Mourinho has turned up on Goals on Sunday, currently ranting away about referees again.

How Ashley Barnes made it through the whole game without even a yellow card is a mystery. His first challenge on Ivanovic looked deliberate, I think he should have been given a yellow for that. Then the challenge on Matic really looked nasty. I'm not sure if he meant to take the player, but he goes over the ball and could have done some serious damage.

On a side note, does anyone else think the handball rule needs clarifying? According to the rules, it should only be a free-kick/penalty if the handball is deliberate. The Kightly handball wasn't given as a penalty and the yet pundits on MOTD were adamant it should have been given, but it you watch it again Kightly has completely turned his head and isn't even looking at the player or ball when it strikes his hand, so how can he have deliberately handled it?

I'm not necessarily arguing that it wasn't a penalty. In fact I think it probably should have been. But the rules of the game seem muddled at best when it comes to handball.

This man has lost it. But I'm sure the media will credit it as his "mind games".

Lost it?

This is fantastic television....I love that this man us the leader of my club....I love that he doesn't give a shit...I love that he's telling it how it is.

All we need now is Jamie Redknapp to turn up so José can grill him.

But in this case, what he is saying is spot on.

Those 4 decisions yesterday were dreadful and just because they went against Jose/Chelsea doesn't alter the fact - ranting or not

For a tackle like that? Surely its at least a 3 match ban?
Doesn't play for a big club, not high profile etc.

Jose has lost it...as his side sit 5 points clear at the top. Fucking hell.

You don't see those tackles revisited with retrospective bans. I can't think of any off the top of my head anyway?

Cahill on Alexis Sanchez earlier in the season wasn't was it....

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.

The more I see it, first it's not a 'tackle' as he's playing the ball, not trying to win it, and second, it looks more and more like an accident. He plays the ball and Matic sticks his leg in as he's bringing his foot down. A fraction of a second earlier or later and the foot misses the shin and Matic has just clattered someone with a late challenge.

The red is clear as day, mate. I agree that he's trying to play the ball at first, but the way he leaves the ground to put all of his weight on the leading foot makes this a no-brainer. As silly as it may sound I hope he doesn't get a three match ban, as Burnley play Man City in 3 games I think.

Can have no complaints about the Matic red though. It may only have been a shove in the chest but any excuse to have someone sent off yesterday and Atkinson would've taken it, and Matic gave it to him.

No matter what, you don't retaliate. The laws of the game don't say 'unless you are REALLY hacked off'.
I think the sense of appealing, if they do, is not for this reason. That genuinely would be a "frivolous appeal". Yeah all the ex-pros saying his reaction in the heat of the moment is how they'd have reacted themselves, but they'd have all been sent off too.

The sense of an appeal is that, I think (as Gary Neville claims Howard Webb told him), the laws state that a push on an opponent is only a red card if it is above the neck. A push in the chest / arm / back is a yellow card. I'm unsure if you'd have to take into account the force of the push or how aggressively the offending player was behaving. I'm guessing when the appeal inevitably fails this'll be the logic behind it.

Did Jose really say Arsene has it easy because he can buy, sell, rebuild and wait for success?

He's not wrong though is he? Wenger could relegate Arsenal and he'd still have a job.

If they do appeal the red card and it's rejected (probably) wouldn't that mean an extra game ban?

Having watched the four crucial incidents, I'm with Jose. We really have been ridiculously hard done by, no matter how poorly we played. Utterly inept officiating. Barnes is a thug.

He's running, you leave the ground when you are running.

His speed is very low when he makes the pass. And what part of running includes leaning your body backwards 45 degrees anyway? Saw his chance to leave a mark and did so. Both deserved the red, mind.

If he 'saw his chance' he saw it from the corner of his eye, in a tenth of a second and was very lucky that Matic swung his leg exactly into the path of his foot.

Meanwhile, from the Observer report of the game;

"Chelsea appealed in the 43rd minute when Costa collapsed in the box following contact from Jason Shackell. Mourinho, who claims his striker gets a raw deal from officials, threw his arms to the skies in supposed disbelief when the referee waved play on, but the decision seemed fair – Shackell’s hands did touch Costa but it was hardly the sort of shove that would, for example, prevent a commuter from boarding a train."

Well a) it wasn't a dive, it was a fairly clear penalty b) dunno, why you're defending Barnes. His studs are showing, it's high, it's late, it's fucking dangerous and one of the more obvious red cards you're ever likely to see. Bizarre.

How in the fuck can it be 'late' when he's the one playing the fucking ball?

Yeah man there was nothing wrong with the tackle whatsoever. Matic had no reason to react like that!! he needs well locking up the psycho. Just because Barnes had the nerve to go within 2 foot of him Matic is scum!!??

am I doing it right?

What is it with Arsenal fans posting photos/videos with nothing to tell us why they've posted it.

I don't know what you're looking for....Mikel should have been sent off too....is that what you wanted?

I just don't think that, on viewing the incident properly, it's the deliberate, tryingtoendhiscareer, horrorshow that has been claimed. It probably hurt Matic, but if you don't want to get sent off, you don't then leg it over and shove him to the floor right in front of the ref!

Never said anything about Matic being scum, but as the two players came together it was Matic challenging Barnes, because Barnes had the ball.
