Just seen that Cheltenham have extended the current deal. I thought they were certain to kick them out this season, with Johnson being peed off with the pitch and also the fans.

What do you Cheltenham fans on here think? Good business or mistake?

It is what it is. It's no coincidence that the pitch was award-winning before Gloucester started playing on it, and now it looks awful. But, by the same token, they're not the only reason the pitch has gone to pot. The weather over the last few winters has been either significantly colder or wetter. Mike Heather was a fantastic groundsman, as was Terry Roberts. Have they been replaced sufficiently?

Apparently next season's deal is a significantly higher amount and with more stringent rules attached (not sure what these could possibly be), and it's been mentioned that this will likely be their last year, with the hope being that they'll be at the new Meadow Park for 17/18. Work's going to have to start bloody fast though, considering that they haven't even started clearing the site yet.

I was surpised when i read about that, little under 18 months to get the site cleared, planning permission sorted, build the ground ect. Can't see where the funding will come from. I wish them all the best though.

Any idea how much more rent it will be?

Not a clue, then again this past season was meant to have been increased as well, with it previously being £45k a year.

Wonder where they'll be playing in 17/18. I bet it's not in Gloucester...

One final season? Lets see.

As you say, I'll believe it's their final season when they actually play a home game elsewhere at the start of the 17/18 season.

I would hate ANY club to fold whether it's a rival or not.
I think the massive mistake was not going back to Meadow Park because some director thought it would be a great chance to stick a football club on the side of an industrial estate thinking they were going to get an almost free ground.
Carlisle got flooded for the umpteenth time and are back playing in weeks.
Financially it looks a great deal (other clubs share with rugby clubs).
A mistake was made by the contractors when last season finished and it looks crap now but not the worst I've seen.
Without doubt the pitch is going to be stripped and more money is going to be invested over the close season.
In short if the board thinks it's a good idea I'll go with that.

I disagree to an extent about them going straight back to Meadow Park. It was never really viable. It was the third flood in 15 years (although by far the worst) and they couldn't get insurance on the ground in it's current state. Not to mention the fact that the water from the 3rd flood came through the Hempsted tip, making it extremely unclean.

City never really wanted to go to Meadow Park, they were quite happy where they were before, but Westbury Homes bought them and took their land to build on (it's also where the black and yellow colours came from).

The reason they have planning issues now is because they are trying to raise the land and make the ground flood-proof, raising the question of where any future flood water will go. I hope they start building soon, and I hope to God they get back to Gloucester soon as well. The loyal 3-400 who have been following them around the county since 2007 more than deserve it.
