I still haven't forgiven CJ for his abdication at the climax of his game.

Not sure when this will start yet. The proper sign up thread and more details will go up after Rammy's Gameshow Marathon and I'll set a start date then.

Just from the definition before everything went down is it similar to this? http://www.http://www.onefootballforum.co.uk/showthread.php/311597-Classic-Mafia-Thread

If it is similar (which I think it is) then if you ever need a hand running one I'd be happy to help.

Oaf wrote a really good summary on here yesterday before the forum ate itself.

So a basic outline of how the game works. There are two teams, the innocents and the killers but both teams are mixed into one community. Every game day (48 hours usually) the community vote to execute one of their number, the innocents win if they manage to execute all of the killers. After the execution we have the night which is when the killers attempt to take out one of the innocents, the killers win if their number becomes equal to that of the innocents (so if there were 2 killers and 2 innocents left the killers would win). There are also a couple of other roles in the game (mayor, seer etc.) and each version of the game adds something a little different with setting, story line, characters etc.

Yeah pretty much exactly what we have on the other forum just going by a different name, we had a game on the other site where what would be killers here one of them had a role which made all of the cops investigation for the town/inniocents bastardised, so they were the opposite, town obviously had no idea so it caused chaos.

I always remember that I was a boxer in my first ever game of NOTW, it was set on a stranded boat at sea. I had to talk with a lisp. Even now, I always nearly spell the word "suspect", "thusphect".

In my first game I was given the angel power a few days after the game had started. I had no idea what it meant, so I never used the power.

:fl: What a waste.

God damn it. We need that old laughing smiley back. I thought it was funny, but not rolling on the floor hammering it with my fist funny. It's too extreme of a laugh. At the moment we can only either be not laughing, or laughing too much. We need a middle ground. I've got no idea how saving the forum last night and making it so only a couple hours worth of posts were deleted instead of deleting everything was prioritized over getting the laughing smiley back.

Out of interest, is this actually the first NOTW since that massive one we did ages ago? If so, that's a long time!

I believe it is. I've looked back at loads of cached games and it really was a long time since we were playing it regularly.

Yeah it is. And even then I think the massive one came a while after a normal game.

10 months between the last 'normal' game and the big one. And it's been almost three years since that one! Think people just when mad with it, Accident left three months between the first 2, then there was pretty much two a month for the rest of 2009!! No wonder I couldn't keep up...

notes I'd made when I was planning to update that overall thread a while back:

Nice one Munkiki. I always love your efforts at keeping the NOTW records alive.

Hm, I ran three of them... has anybody ever ran more than that? Fuck it, I'm gonna Munkiki style see how many games people have run:

4
Gassy

3
Oaf
James
Magic (?)
SUTSS

2
Accident
Jarvis
Veggie Legs

1
LHD
Don Tonberry
Toffee Joe
Stringy
Gashead
AndyCJ
Scipio
Golden Pick
Hand of Dom (?)
Last Request

It seems Gassy is our current champion in terms of running games, but SUTSS is set to tie him with this game.

I'd love to run another one at some point though. I remember, I always had this idea that I'd run one in Rapture from Bioshock. Seemed like a unique enough setting that works, cut off from the rest of the world and all that. But in the end I ended up doing one in space, with NOTW 12, which was my second game. I prefered NOTW V though, on the Lost Island. Tried to get a proper narrative in that one and everything. It did start to get a struggle though to think up unique situations to keep it fresh by the end though... but with the time it's been since NOTW was regular, plus the bunch of new people we have now, it's probably safe to say that we can return to old settings once again.

I'm looking forwards to NOTW coming back so much though. It was awesome back when it was running. And while we've lost many of the old regulars, (looking through that list of people who ran it, where are legends such as Gassy, Gashead and Golden Pick these days?!) we've now got a whole bunch of newer people who should help make the games as awesome as they once were.

And I say "games", assuming this is going to make a proper comeback, should this first game be successful which I'm sure it will be. The one thing I'll say though... looking at the dates on them... most months in 2009 had two games running! Toward the end the appeal did wear off because we did totally overdo it. So may I make a suggestion for us to agree on before we get into this...? Some rules to keep NOTW from burning out this time...:

1) Lets keep a limit of one game per month at the most.
2) If somebody else is running another game (for example, LR does another survivor, James does another game show marathon, I do 1FF Wars) lets give NOTW a break rather than having them running at the same time. We ought to keep the tradition going of one forum game running at any given time.

With those two things in place, I reckon NOTW will have a lot more life in it.

It works pretty well at the moment with 1 game being ran on the forum (bar sheep) or one being near to running at all time. Keeps the games fresh and does stop what happened with NOTW originally where it ran out of steam a little. NOTW doesn't last as long as some of the other forum games either so it could become a nice little game to fill 2/3 weeks in between the games that last 6 weeks-2 months like the Game Show Marathon, Survivor, Wars etc.
