Jake Howells has left Eastleigh by mutual consent.
Has been out injured a while, but was our best player at the start of the season.

Are we in for any of your lot? We like a loan from Eastleigh.

Today we have released James Caton, and allowed Gary Jones to stay on loan at Altrincham for the rest of the season.

Caton has flattered to decieve, his contract ended after New Years Day and quite simply has been no more than a squad player for us. Jones just doesn't have the legs for it at this level any more.
Caton's career has tanked since his loan spell with us at the end of last season.

I thought he'd get a decent move but there were always question marks over his work rate and unwillingness to do any defensive duties. In that respect, he definitely put himself into the 'luxury' category. In the end, he'll probably another one to put in the, 'hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard' folder.

The other keeper, Rawlins, from Market Drayton ended up signing a rugby league-style dual-reg deal, meaning he can play for both clubs! Anyone else heard of that kind of deal in non-league football?

Yep.

Peter Bore was under one at Boston. In that case, Boston as the parent club has first refusal on whether to use him that weekend. If not, he played for the other Club (forget who). Effectively made sure he was getting game time every weekend. In between a normal player and a loan set-up.

We have Laurence Bell on a dual registration with Hyde at the moment. Fairly common practice across non league.

I think with us, the deal is that he will basically stay at Market Drayton, but in the event of a keeper crisis he can move to Barrow to fill a place on the bench - I doubt he'll play for us at any point.

Anyone leaving or available from Eastleigh is prob well out of our price range, but apparently we're in for 2-3 experienced players at this level.

We are apparently looking at an experienced midfielder. Howells is a midfielder right?

I thought Flatt was OK when he was with us. A bit small. Not amazing but certainly better than Coughlin.

Cockerline who we got from Northwich was on dual registration with them and Curzon Ashton.
Rawlins has been training with us this last week or so - and will probably continue doing that on and off - whilst we monitor how he does for Market Drayton. The newspaper write up (in the summer) about him and the Telford keeper being destined for the pro ranks mentioned he'd virtually had no coaching before so lets see if it helps him progress.

We used to do it with Skelmersdale when we were a Conference North side, usually doing it on a few players each towards the end of the season. We would get access to their better players in case we made the play-offs, and they would be able to access some of ours in case they did too. I don't think any of the players ever played for the other team, but it was a handy back-up method in case of injuries and suspensions.

I wouldnt be put off by the rumoured wage tags for these Eastleigh players that are being released. Everyone one of them will have had their healthy contracts fully paid up, so they are financially ok for quite a while yet. Meaning they can quite easily take a pay cut and still have a wedge of money in the bank, so may not be looking to match their Eastleigh wages.
Yes Jake Howells is a midfielder and a very good passer and keeper of the ball.

Jason Williams joined Boreham Wood on loan from us. Could work out to be a good signing for them. Jury is out on him.

Woking have signed striker Conor Hall on loan from Sheffield United. Has recently been on loan at Northern Premier League side Micklover Sports where has made quite an impression including scoring 5 in a 7-0 demolition of a extremely young/weak Ilkeston side.

You'll be for it when we possibly hopefully maybe sign Izale McLeod.

As you know we BELTs live in the past on faded memories of past glories (unlike you tinpotters with your imagined futures of what may never come to pass) so this is the million pound striker of 2007 we are talking about. Not the guy who recently signed for Corby.

Jack Saville And Charlie Walker both signed for St Albans today.
Surprised they have dropped a league, thought both would do a decent job at this level.

Izale McLeod. Sign Clive Platt and you've got yourself a decent pairing...in 2006!
