We've made another good signing, Gareth Roberts signs from Chester, who apparently did well for them last season.

This is what we've needed for ages, none of these 18 year old college kids.

Very good signing for you. Many Chester fans, myself included, were disappointed that we let him go.

At the start of last season I was worried his legs would have gone and he would struggle but he was one of our most consistent performers. Would be surprised if there was a better left back in the conference north than him next season.

Most of us would be happy if he was still here, based on his performances from last season. I think Burr is probably just assuming he'll struggle to maintain that level of form for another year at this level, given that he's now 37.

Stockport County.
It's probably been mentioned on other threads when he was appointed/when I wasn't around. But do the Chester fans on here and in general rate Neil Young?

They all love him, massive respect to him but acknowledge the conference premier was a step too far. That's the general opinion I've got.

One more signing and we have our first choice defence complete. A reasonably pacy Centre back to slot in with the other three and then we have Hurst behind them. On paper that is a definite improvement on last season's defence. A shame Lees isn't on a modest contract as he would have been an excellent back up player.

Absolute Chester legend mate.
He dismantled our record-breaking Conference north-winning team and assembled a team of players, who on paper should have been good, but let him down badly. He won't make that mistake again when he gets you back into the Prem.

That's pretty much spot on. I think he is more than capable of doing well in the conference premier but I think we actually got there too fast if that makes any sense. As Railway Blue says, he was also badly let down by quite a few players last season.

Nice one fellas. Chester as a club should be very proud of how they've got themselves back up the divisions. I'm happy if you lot rate what he did for you.

Come on now, he was excellent up to Conference North level but to suggest it was the players fault isn't quite right. He put a dogshit side together for the Prem... nothing to do with them letting him down.

Fully expect him to bring Stockport up... and do the exact same thing. Unless he's learnt that dismantling sides every season isn't particularly sustainable.

Solihull Moors just confirmed three more signings. Jack Byrne from Harriers and Adam Walker and James Armson from Nuneaton. That makes it three from Nuneaton and four from Kidderminster :L

The likes of Danny Harrison, Jason Jarret, Craig Lindfield, Kevin McIntyre, Jamie Reed and Gareth Seddon all failed to live up to their reputations. We also signed some pretty useless loanees during that period like Conor Wilkinson, Alex Titchener and Shaquille McDonald, who was sent off after 10 minutes of his debut and never played again. It didn't help that he could'nt drive. NY will have learnt from all this.

He should have known Jarret and Seddon weren't up to much from their time with us.

Seddon was decent and nothing more in Conference North with us, should no way have been a main goal threat for Prem team.

I'm not sure what sort of reputation Craig Lindfield will have come with!! Plus Kev McIntyre must have been out 43 when you signed him surely!

Carl Magnay has signed for Hartlepool. Gutted but not at all surprised. Arguably the best defender in the division last season.

Tom Miller would be a replacement (cb,rb)

That's obviously the replacement who instantly springs to mind, but how attacking is Miller? The only real attacking full back we've had under Hurst was Aswad Thomas (I think?) who had his moments, but he didn't work out for a number of reasons. Hurst definitely favours the more defensive full backs and traditional wingers down the flanks approach. I haven't seen enough of Miller to really know what type of full back he is.

Not buying into "Operation Promotion" then.

Alex Wall signed for Bromley today. Decent player, should hit double figures for them.

Neither he nor Bradley Goldberg got many chances with us, and when they did they weren't that impressive. Having said that, I'm sure regular football at Bromley will do them both well - good signings for them.

Don't see a lot here on the Conference South, but Gosport Borough have signed defenders Adam Brice (ex-Shots) from Farnborough and (possibly injury-prone?) Ryan Woodford from H&W, and TJ Cuthbertson from Sholing. Andy Forbes has retired but both Mike Carter (MF, former Sholing star) and Andy Robinson (MF and another from Saints academy) have signed new contracts. The experienced Adam Wilde, Steve Ramsey and Brett Poate are all staying. Matt Paterson has been offered a new deal, but has not signed up for it yet. The club have a new striker, Kieran Stephen, who has been signed on a one-year deal from Amesbury Town after impressing in a friendly against Salisbury.

Yeh. You can put your cup of tea down now.

Can't blame him for moving to a bigger team.

Hartlepool are not a bigger club, however they are in the FL, a deciding factor.

Gutted he's gone but i'm confident we'll go out and find a decent replacement. I'd like to see a defender who can get forward a bit. Mackreth is actually very very good at performing his defensive duties when needed, so there's definately scope to get in a forward thinking right back.

With Pearson and Gowling signed, the Magnay blow isn't as big as it could've been. He's moving back home to be with his family. Fair enough, if it meant him being distracted by staying here then it's best for both parties. Really good player but I reckon he's more easily replaced than the ones I've mentioned.

Defensively sound, very good at going forward and gets his fair share of goals too. Decent CB as well.
