Tshimanga joins the £10k a week striker club then.

Looking at your squad, I bet you've got some high earners already on there that you're trying to shift. You've got one of the biggest squads in the league at the moment numbers wise.

Aye we do have some to shift, training with the youths and won't be involved thanks to useless Holloway.

It's easy to feel like it'll end badly for one of us, but the reality is ourselves and Stockport are both filthy rich, and somebody is likely throwing a ton of money at Chesterfield too. We'll all spend big until we go up.

I can't see Grimsby leaving themselves behind.

Aye but you are only filthy rich as long as the owners want to keep throwing money around as soon as the money doesn't get them where they want, and they realise they will have to keep throwing money at it, is where ends badly and the only ones losing out are the fans.

I’m not convinced about him. Granted he was never given much of a chance. But other than being great at stepovers I never really saw much else in him.
I wish he'd been given more of a chance, but that'll never happen with any of our youngsters.

I don't see our owners stopping until we get to League One, I'm sure they said that in the mission statement they constantly keep referring to.

Whether the mystery owners at Stockport and Chesterfield have the same view, who knows. Nobody knows who they are to put it to them.

Just wait till they realise noone wants to watch a documentary on a random Welsh non league club finishing 8th every year and Disney cancels the show, so they can't milk you for fame anymore!

If our owners leave then we stop being a media draw, and that is what is generating money and attention to us, and enabling us to spend the money (I doubt they've had to put in any of their own money since the initial 2mil) But then you can say to any club "If your owners leave things could end badly". Then is no more reason for ours to leave than anyones.

As far as transfer fees go Chesterfield have just, apparently*, spent as much as us and Stockport have all summer on one player. That fee is why, I suspect, Tshimanga was still at BW.

*take everything with a pinch of salt.

We've signed Omar Mussa (Ex-8 appearances for Dover) and Taofiq Olomowewe (Ex-9 clubs in the last four years), which goes to show the yawning chasm that separates the likes of us from the likes of them. Oh well, I suppose being in a relegation dogfight from day one'll let us at least know pretty soon which of the players are up for the fight and which aren't.

Join the club.

We had Taofiq Olomowewe with us a few years back and I didn't think he was anywhere good enough for the National League South, the overriding memory was a lack of positional awareness which was exploited against him plenty of times.

Cracking signing that. One of the best strikers in the league without a doubt. Chesterfield have to make top 3 minimum with that squad otherwise it’s a massive failure for me.

In the same breath, it just sums up our financial situation. Chesterfield sign Tshimanga whilst we are set to announce 4 unproven kids as in Wilds words we can’t compete in the current market.
Well, you're probably just running sustainably. We're probably not going to be operating sustainably this season for the first time in years and we still can't compete financially with the ones splashing the cash in this division.
This signing has set some panic into our fan base and rightly so I’d say. Hursts apparent amazing ability to sign a striker (a myth IMO) is set to be put to the test in a big way
Ah yes those mythical beings Hearn, Bogle and Amond. Was that all just a dream?

Been through this a few times already. We've got a few transfer listed who are probably on decent wages yep, so ideally we'd move them on. However, a sizeable chunk of our squad is 1st/2nd year academy graduates. We'll have a top 5 budget, but it's nowhere near yours, Wrexham's or Chesterfield's. I'd bet good money that we've got the 5th highest after the aforementioned and Notts.

We won't compete with you lot financially, we'll just build a side that can grind out 1-0s and finish in the playoffs consistently before winning them at some point. At the end of the day, if we get one of you lot in the playoff final then 9k a week strikers only pay off if they get the better of an organised defence in a one off, which is by no means a given.

Yes, that’s completely it. But my argument would be we aren’t competing for the same players as the likes of yourselves, and the other 4 big boys. You’d think there’d be some decent players knocking about in our budget range. The players we are set to announce come across as cheap panic signings.

The big concerns looking at our squad is we haven’t really replaced Byrne/Clarke, King and most importantly Hyde’s goals. I can see us leaking a lot of goals with our young, inexperienced backline and although we’ve a lot of creative players I’m struggling to see who will put the chances away for us.

That is a statement of intent by Chesterfield. This season's sack race is going to be quite something. Pressure on Parkinson, Rusk, Burchnall and Rowe to maintain title form from the start, impossible for them all to achieve. At least one of them will bite it, you have to think. Then you have us, who don't realistically have a chance of competing for the title, but too many of our lot expect it anyway because of last season, meaning Johnson is in trouble. Brown and Hurst are in for a rude awakening, too, as Southend and Grimsby don't look like contenders.

Then you have the likes of McMahon at Dagenham, Searle at Aldershot, and Dowson at Woking, who for very different reasons have already got pressure to make things happen quickly. I think Weymouth's Brian Stock isn't particularly liked by his fanbase either. Garrard seems to have underperformed, but maybe gets latitude with this Tshimanga news? Can't be sure how Strevens has kept his position at Eastleigh with the money they've invested. Imagine Ardley has expectations at Solihull, too. And then there's Kewell at Barnet, who have assembled quite a decent looking squad, surely expecting something, but I'll bet Notts County fans will disagree.

About the only manager with any real security this season is the one who is going to ultimately end all the others: Unless he somehow manages to Devonshire himself!
I suspect if the owners believe they've got the right man, they'll stick with them. They'll all know that with Notts, Stockport, Wrexham and Chesterfield that at least two of the Clubs are staying where they are and it'll be very competitive at the top. Only way a sacking will be a massive underachievement i.e. if they look like missing out on the PO's IMO.

Serious money down here this season, certainly more spent than in L2 and the vast majority of L1 (only Ipswich and Wigan are really spending decent sums in L1).

We’ve signed Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain. Looks like he’s been at a lot of clubs at a lower level, anyone know if he’s any good?

Good luck to him, but I’m amazed he’s got another club at this kind of level. Looked miles off the ability needed whenever we saw him, and his last loan spell was with Ilkeston at step four or something where he didn’t do anything useful either.

Hurst signed Hearn, Amond and Bogle. He also signed Payne, Hoban, Tomlinson, Vernon, Jolley, Tounkara etc

The signing of Tshimanga is huge for Chesterfield. They certainly are 'Going For It' this season before the FFP rules come in.

I don't quite understand where the money has come from (except the Government Furlough Scheme of course) and whether it really is sh*t or bust this season. A three-year deal for Tshimanga would suggest it isn't just for this year which again begs the question of where the funds are coming from?!

We all know Wrexham are being supported by Reynolds and McElenney and their use of TikTok as a marketing tool has been very impressive. Shirt sales in the US of the Philly Eagles style Wrexham kit have gone down a very well by all accounts. We have seen already plans for the improvement of Wrexham's backroom and stadium and i wouldn't be surprised if Wrexham we're a Premier League tea by the time Reynolds and McElenney have finished with them.

Our funds are coming from Stopfordian Mark Stott who made his fortune in property (whether ethically or not is not for me to comment really). He seems focused in Stockport becoming a north west football hub not just with ambitions to reach the Championship, but also through the acquisition of Stockport Town as an avenue to help local footballers improve either in a non-league environment with Stockport Town, or in the EFL with County.

Stott's investment has (as i understand it) been done by way of equity rather than loans, so we are in a good position in a sense that if he did pull the plug, he cannot demand his loans back. He would have to sell the shares to realise the equity value, something that he probably isn't likely to benefit from until we reach Championship level so his return is very much based on our success.

This season is going to be super competitive. I think the team with the best defence probably wins it this year, as each team at the top have strikers capable of scoring a lot of goals.

In terms of numbers, Chesterfield seemingly have 6 strikers to choose from (albeit a couple of them are made of glass and another is a pensioner) whereas we currently have 3 recognised strikers on the books (Madden, Quigley and Reid) but each of them are capable of 20+ goals this season. And of course we have Rooney who does sod all for 89 minutes and then pings one in the top corner from 30 yards!

Can't wait for the season to get going with fans in stadia once again.

Here in Farm Foods bargain aisle, we have signed Andrew Nelson, formerly of Torquay. If he has got over his injury, once fully fit he would tear NLN apart. Was brilliant in his loan spell with us a couple of years ago. If he shows anything like that form, won't be here for long.
