To be honest it amazes me how clubs still manage to keep spectacularly fucking it up. You’ve got about 10-15 years of evidence as to why league clubs struggle to adapt down here, they all do exactly the same thing, every single year.

Granted we’ve had a major loss of form but as far as points and position at this point goes, we’re still a relative success story so far compared to the majority of others.
Totally agree and also, directly in our case, how detached from how football had moved on Phil Brown had become in both his recruitment policy, training, bawling players out in public and tactics employed for the early part of this season in which he was holding the reigns.

The difference in atmosphere around the club is now totally different and hopefully the results on the pitch will pick up too from this point on.

And this GOT him the job, you say?
Slightly lower than you'd expect us to be, but I'll take that considering Hurst has pretty much had to build a squad from scratch. Definitely doing a solid job. Remit was playoffs and that is very much still on.

You seemed to have slightly more deadwood than us not only from last season, but also the season before I think? Remnants of a L1 budget down here won't make things easy at all. Having said that, everyone on this forum knew that hiring Phil Brown was a terrible idea and his signings in pre-season were the butt of many jokes before a ball was even kicked so quite how any board would think it was a good idea is worrying. Happy that you're getting back on track as I like you as a club, but it's also annoying in that it's another BELT swinging their massive balls around down here. You lot can have your pick of the London talent and surrounding areas but anything North of Peterborough is for us, Notts and Chesterfield to fight over.

Wasn’t Husin quite well thought of when he was at Notts a while back?

He came from Palace with the ubiquitous ‘highly rated’ tag, but never lived up to it here. Scored a couple of screamers and could ping a crossfield pass, but was nowhere near up to it physically.

Harry will give you everything 110% type of player, more an enforcer type of player not a creative one. Injuries have ruined him I’m afraid but always had the talent to go far but barely played a game in two years now and if he stays fit ’d be surprised.

Thanks, sounds just what we don't need as nearly all our problems this season stem from an inability to score which puts pressure on our defence and then when we do go behind having to throw players forward in an attempt to create something (anything) which leads to us conceding lots of goals later in games.

He was 21 at Notts he’s 24 now so with any luck toughened up a bit in his years at Dartford. He certainly appears very highly rated there. I predict this will turnout being the better of the two signings

Definitely agree on the Brown recruitment front. Whilst you guys were rockin' and rollin' with laughter, we were having to live through it! I also think it was also a demonstration of how exposed a position Ron had put himself into, going it alone for 5 years after letting our CEO go in 2016. He demonstrated a fatal (for our league membership) lack of football awareness, relying on guesswork and a limited amount of football knowledge and contacts, which is why he brought PB back from India probably. Also another marmite character has left the club and allegedly freed up some funds, so we are shaping up nicely. Also perhaps Ron did keep some of our £1.4m budget for this season away from Phil Brown, when he saw the way his recruitment was going. Not all bad though, in that Steve Arnold, Jack Bridge, Rhys Murphy and Sam Dalby have all settled in well injuries apart. Those not mentioned, not the case admittedly lol.

Could be annoying to some I guess, but these are the first transfer fees we have paid in approx. 2 seasons and neither is a bank buster. Some of the funding is source from a new sponsorship drive and now we have a proper business plan from the football club we can function as a proper football club again, similar to what we were in the mid 90s hopefully.........

I was only on the wind-up really. I expect the Mariners to start climbing the league again now McAtee is back firing. Should be a big game and decent gate on Feb 5, our tribute to the sadly departed Colin Slater with Warnock and a few other special guests has been moved to then after tonight’s match was cancelled.

Praying he delivers, we've been crying out for goals. He was actually on trial with us at the start of the season even travelling with the squad up to the first game at Southport but Groves didn't offer him a contract.

He might have found his level but he was absolutely dreadful for us, comically bad.

David Longe King has gone on loan to Surrey based basketball side Woking. Good player I thought, sounds like he wanted a move down south so it works for everyone.

Ah yeah not suggesting you're overspending or anything. We ended up paying a small fee for McAtee, but it's been rare for us to do that recently too. I meant more annoying in that from an entirely selfish point, I was hoping you might languish down towards the bottom half for a few seasons before starting to make a fist of it. There's already enough competition here! Good for the division/neutral though.

Yeah, really looking forward to it. I'm guessing with the Plan B restictions and COVID passes being dropped that there'll be potential for our 2k allocation to be increased should we need it?

wasn't taken that way at all SoC, and I get what you mean, the division is competitive enough anyway lol. From our perspective, just a pity Brown left us in such a state and so far adrift, that the rest of this season is just for pride, but I would hope we could force our way up to around 10th to 12th if it goes well and we steer clear of injuries.

On the bright side it will be a little easier next year as Col U will be down here, points for all!!!

Quigley would be a right odd signing.

Well you waint lerrus have Roberts so we've had to go to the bargain bin haven't we. Don't mean to bad mouth a fella before he's even pulled on the shirt, but if this is true and we've genuinely signed a meme striker I'm gutted

Tbf Rowe said in his interview today that we inquired about a number of players but the fees were in effect ridiculous for this level. I think Quigley was probs 2nd or 3rd choice. Yeovil fans on Facebook seem to rate him though so long as you don’t treat him as a target man.

I’ll give him a chance.

As long as you keep Tshimanga it doesn’t really matter, he’s better than Payne and just be a different option off the bench. Assume you’ll have had to pay a reasonable fee though, so it is a bit of a weird one.

Quigley and Roberts are two very different players, assume you’re still after someone in that creative role.

If you keep Tshimanga and Asante stays fit Quigley will give you a different option. He's not terrible really he's just a Bog standard NL front man. If you go up he isn't good enough for L2.

Obviously if Tshimanga goes elsewhere before the window ends and Asante gets injured again and you are left with just Quigley and Tyson. Well....that's a different matter.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he did really well for you, he’s definitely good enough technically and a couple of years in the Conference South should’ve toughened him up no end.

I doubt that very much. Contract up at the end of the season and the geezers most goals before this season was 5. A tenner probably swung it

Well, I give anyone a chance once they pull on the blue, but very very fucking skeptical about this guy. Shit players don't just suddenly turn good overnight. Just hope it's only a 1 year deal or something

I reckon we will have probs paid about £20k, isn’t that about what we paid for Kairo Mitchell?
