Thanks for the welcome DarkSithLord, good to be here, I think. Trying to embrace the non league status and looking forward to a few more wins this coming season. Don't agree with all of the Stags comments but nice to see you got out of Mansfield and moved to a nice part of the world. Good work.

Yes we had a terrible season but its been coming since we got promoted, the last decade at the club has been terrible because of ownership but things are slowly starting to get back to how they were when we were a side achieving promotion and getting to playoff finals. We were far better than you lot, and thats dealing with bigger changes and a smaller budget, you were an embarrassment to the league the way you played at times, a few of your loan signing were good and thats about it. (and i would know because i went to watch quite a few times as i live in cheltenham) so good bye and have fun being back where you belong :)

You were not 'far better than Cheltenham' in any way. They came to Prenton Park and fought back from 2 goals down to win and played some good stuff. Their board appeared to panic and sacked Yeats when they were 10 points clear of danger and it went catastrophically wrong. We sacked Edwards and were bottom of the entire Football League by the time you turned up and played the most defensive 'game' of football I've ever seen. Your striker never left your own half and if we had a bit more confidence we would have beaten you that day. Likewise in the return fixture - one stuffy goal aside we were the better side and if we could have finished we would have won that too.

Us and Cheltenham went down because we deserved to go down. However, Hartlepool, Mansfield, Carlisle and a host of other sides shouldn't be feeling like the had a good season. None of the bottom 10 could have argued if they had gone down, as they were all awful for large parts of the season. We were just awful for most of it.

" Its a shame three teams don't go down because Hartlepool were as bad as Cheltenham and tranmere (and so were we, nearly haha) so i don't get where this new found confidence is coming from" - WH Stag in the League 2 forum 'Confirmed Signings'.

He/she is not even consistent. Says they were' much better' than Cheltenham on the non-league forum and posts the above in the League 2. It's as if he/she doesn't realise people can go to other forums as much as they can!

As ive said on here before it was only mansfield supporters who took to twitter to laugh at our relegation. I used to have a bit of a soft spot for them based on a laugh we had up there in the late 80s .

I really hope they go next season

Jim Stevenson signs a one-year deal after his loan here last season. Good signing I think, improved as the season went on but form dipped with injury.

You might find that is born from the fact that after our game at Field Mill their was several dozen Tranmere wanting to scrap with all and sundry because you had lost. I'm a 42 year old bloke who got 'approached' in a threatening manner by 5-6 lads in their early twenties, whilst trying to walk home with my 13 year old daughter. Very brave of them, though the fact that they didn't feel brave enough to follow it through was probably because they were a little intimidated by the young un!

I also wasn't the only one to have to put up with that sort of crap that night.
Thing is that nobody knows your pain of that night any more than us, but your supporters lost a lot of sympathy with it.

However, I'm betting that your comments are the result of about half a dozen mouthy tools on Twitter, so you can hardly label us all with the same shit stained stick, but if you want to hold a grudge then feel free, though trust me nobody gave a monkeys when we got relegated, or Grimsby, or Lincoln, or Wrexham, or Luton, or Stockport etc etc, so stop feeling so precious about going down, you're not the first and won't be the last.

Same with peoples opinions of characters like this WH fella, or AdamStag, they don't speak for our whole following, so chill your skin a little.

As for Riley and Sutton?..... They're going to be plenty good enough to help get Tranny out of this division, as they are tried and tested and successful at this level, so you shouldn't have any fears over their quality, whatever the odd bitter Stags fan says.

All the best for 2015-16!

No need to apologise to me mate, I'm not offended and as a club we at Mansfield can hardly preach about idiots kicking off at the match, including when getting relegated.

We got relegated to the Conference in a local derby against Rotherham and the atmosphere was poisonous. It's probably the worst experience in football supporting and I think the majority who have experienced it sympathize with the plight.

I think there will be few former league clubs who haven't experienced goading of opposition fans when they've suffered that ultimate drop. The fact that some of our number took delight in your demise shows that they learnt absolutely nothing from 5 appallingly long years in the Conference.

Hendon seemed to keep far more clean sheets once Charlie Goode came into the side, having signed for them halfway through the season from AFC Hayes. He's a tall lad (as is centre half partner Elliott Braithwaite) who's not as slow as an oil tanker. I can only go off highlights so I can't assess his observation of what's going on in front of him, positioning etc. but it's a low risk/high reward signing for Scunthorpe, imo.

James Clarke of Woking signs.

Only as a squad player as far as I'm aware, but looking forward to seeing him in action.

Interesting signing. He's a good defender, a pretty no-nonsense type and considering his height he wins a fair few headers. Quick on the turn too. Can play RB or CB but I'm not really sure which is his best position as he was in and out of the team through injury which was a problem. He also has a habit of being pre-occupied with the opponent rather than the ball which can lead to cheap free-kicks given away and most of the time a yellow card.

I had hoped, following your promotion, that your original interest in him would disappear but unfortunately that hasn't happened. If there was one of our defenders who I'd have said would be playing in the Football League next season it wouldn't have been him. That said, if he is just to be more of a squad player than anything else, then fair enough he will probably do a good enough job for you.

Sounds like we bid for him in January but the fee was too high - as I say think he's more of a squad player, will hopefully contribute next year though.

Any particular reason he was released?
I think the main rumor is he stood up to pennock, and pennock prefers players he originally signed, great keeper

Good keeper. Would have had him back here in a flash.

Is Bartlett off then?

Apparently so, the newspaper article which announced Russell signing said that Bartlett is leaving but on his twitter he said the club have told him nothing so if hes found out hes leaving via a newspaper article its poor from the club.

Ah well, sounds good then. Very happy with the signing and hopefully we can keep the standard of signings this high.

Pretty much the same view as FGRJC, he wasn't the keeper signed by Pennock, so the writing was always on the wall. The fact that he played 144 consecutive league games for us probably says all you need to know, very good shot stopper, adored by the fans. You will need to work with him to change him from a keeper that boots clearances upfield to one who plays the ball to a defender as per the Gateshead style of play, do that and you have signed a fine keeper.

We have signed Sam Russell, happy with that.
And he is guaranteed at least 2 outstanding performances for you next season, vs Grimsby (A) and vs Grimsby (H) ;) ;)

Our nemesis year after year! :ffs:

Very good keeper, top signing for Gateshead that.

I wouldn't read anything into him losing his place, it wasn't based on ability more on Pennock's man-management "skills".
If you did a poll of FGR fans you'd find that at least 95% would say he should still be our no.1.

Very happy with the signing of Sam Russell, superb keeper the times I've seen him. We couldn't keep two keepers of that standard on the books, but still gutted to see Bartlett go, he really has been excellent.

We've also released 11 including Valentin Gjokaj who should've been kept, the rest (excluding Bartlett and the injured JJ) range from average to rubbish, nearly all are Mills signings last preseason.
