Cheltenham fans do you not think this could be a bad sign?
"He gives us the ability to stretch in behind," Johnson told BBC Gloucestershire.

"I've seen him play more than most and he will be a very efficient squad member. The board have kindly gone over budget as I've convinced them he is a good player."

I'm convinced that his budget will have been supplemented by one of the board members. We came close to admin back in 2009 due to overspending, and we have the same chairman and most of the same board who claim to have learned their lessons.

I'm not one for talking up our Board, but I genuinely believe that in Paul Baker we have the best chairman in the business. He doesn't like to make the same mistake twice.

The full quote from Johnson is: "the board have kindly gone over the budget, for about the fifth time."

So clearly they haven't learnt their lesson.

Over budget already and the season hasn't even started yet?

This isn't going to end well.

Torquay have taken two youngsters on loan from us, striker Joe Quigley and central midfielder Josh Carmichael. Don't know much about Quigley but I can tell you Carmichael is pretty handy, good on the ball.

It sounds worrying, but I trust our chairman and board - as Si Robin said, we were in a similar position a few years ago and they know what they're doing. The real trouble will be if we fail to go up this season, Baker has said we'll lose our academy and have to go part time.

Eastleigh sign Dan Harding?!

Playing in the bloody Championship last season ffs, the best quote on his signing has to be 'we've been prudent this summer, allowing us to make this signing'

Does everybody connected to Eastleigh really believe this shit?

I understand that Cheltenham have signed James Rowe, formerly of both Tranmere and FGR.

Someone on Deva Chat reminded us when Debbie McGee was asked, "what attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels".

Exactly, and Baker has made it clear many times in the last few years that he won't risk the club's future on short-term success. Most of the players are on one year deals based on the fact we only have one year of parachute payments.

Whilst I get the scepticism, I'm not at all worried as I have faith in Paul Baker and the Board, especially now we have a trust representative on it.

Let's not forget that over £200k was invested by the Trust a few months ago, I suspect this has been dipped into a bit more than was originally planned. We've also sold more season tickets than was budgeted for (more than last season as well). Certain Board members (Paul Baker especially) and sleeping partners have been known to fund transfers as well.

Played pretty much every game back half of the season for Millwall

Hill can't do it? Can he?

We have signed Sam Smith - a striker who has scored over 65 goals in the past two seasons at North Counties East level. He has looked very good in preason so thats great news.

Winger John Johnstone has also returned to light training which is a big boost.

We've signed Rob Taylor on non-contract terms. Tranmere fans I saw he played for you last season what do you think if him?

Another signing announced as former Sheffield United youngster Jason Palling joins. Another player who has impressed greatly. He can play right back or right midfield and looks similar in style to John Johnstone in that is very direct and not afraid to commit players.

And after all that, we haven't signed Hooper after all...

"Word got back that he had a family emergency, but it then emerged in a text from him five hours later that he had an offer from another club and he’d like to go and see the club to see what the situation is.
"The minute I lose trust in someone and if it's not quite right, that’s it. He asked if I would wait for the weekend so he could speak to the other club and I said no because it's disrespectful to me and the football club given the situation. So I made his decision easy and said Cheltenham Town Football Club was no longer an option for him."

I've tried as best as I can to blank out any memory of the last two seasons! From what I can remember though he split opinions at his two previous clubs but some thought it was decent signing for League Two. He spent half his time here injured yet Micky Adams persisted to play him even though he was clearly unfit. I'm sure he also played left back, left wing, right wing and as some kind of weird roaming midfielder but didn't show much promise in any of them. In fact, I can't even tell you what his preferred position is.

Could still be decent though, I wouldn't judge any of last seasons players on the basis of how they played with an absolute clown of a manager in charge.

I think we were fortunate to escape with a draw that day too!

Regarding Andi Thanoj yes we still have him. He has just signed a new 1 year deal which is fantastic news. think he is too good for Conference North.

John Marsden has signed for us, to say I'm less than enthusiastic is an understatement. Would much preferred to have signed James Poole.

Are you getting confused with Lee Molyneux?!

Taylor was almost always played as a left back and a fairly decent one at that. He'll be fine in the conference and i'm sure will be back in the league this time next year.

Exactly my thoughts. A very 'meh' signing who did next to nothing from what i saw in pre-season; didn't look like he has any pace, power or technique to 'cause defenders trouble. Would rather wages have been spent on Poole, or even saved until someone else cropped up...

Boreham Wood have signed Conor Clifford. Absolutely quality signing, gutted we didn't bring him in on a full time deal after his successful loan. Boreham Wood really having a go at this conference next season.
