Josh Gowling has officially signed for Torquay from Grimsby.

Great signing that. Have to say I am getting a little concerned at our situation. Just nine players on the books, very little coming out the club and tow nailed on signings fell through now. Hmm.
It's alright, with Gowling signing we now have 8 players on the books.

Make that 9 now with the signing of Jon-Paul Pittman from Harrogate Town.

Scored 11 goals in 22 games last season for them, although he is 30 I think a brute with pace upfront is what we need to give Keating company.

Good days business from the #legend that is Sir Kevin Nicholson.

Pittman isn't a brute; decent turn of pace but very injury prone.

I guess he doesn't love living in Caistor that much then!
He originally had 4 offers on the table all from non league clubs but he said none were enough for him to proper live on so something must have changed somewhere.

I really rated Pittman while he was here, obvious quality but always getting injured.

Oh, and don't put him on penalty duty.........

We didn't offer him a new deal, and I'm quite glad to see him go. If you want a positive then he improved as last season went on, but overall a good athlete/well under par footballer. I'd hope that we can do a lot better when replacing him.

In other Torquay news, we have re-signed Myles Anderson at centre back. Brendan Moore and Courtney Richards are now a week past their deadline to sign new deals, so look likely to be off. Would be sorry to see Moore go, Richards more 50/50.

Re Rowe-Turner: No loss. Surprised he's staying at this level.
Re Anderson: Good back up and may improve with more regular gametime under his belt.
Re Moore: Will be disappointed but he is still very rough in some areas - distribution being a key point.
Re Richards: The worst captain I've seen us have in years. Runs a lot, but can't pass a ball 10 yards. Hopefully he is on his way.
Re Gowling: Positive signing on paper. Looks very experienced and may well assist Nicho with some coaching as he's doing his badges and having completed a psychology degree he seems..not your stereotypical footballer.
Re Pittman: Good signing again on paper - hopefully his best days aren't behind him. As long as he gives 100% he'll be well received down here.

We've now got at least 5 players on 2-year deals. All down to my mate Bernard Concannon getting Sam Hughes to sign as a youth team player 5 years ago.

Absolutely nothing to do with BC or the Hughes sale. Our budget is similar to last seasons.

Joe Green 6'5" keeper joins us from Scarborough Athletic. Some cover/competition for Jonny Maxted.

Pretty happy with this, imagine he'll be used as a winger more than anything else.
He was used more in a defensive midfield role for us as we had wide men ahead of him. He had a couple of decent games, but these were outnumbered by the ones where he was anonymous. He was not right for us, though Adams liked him more than most fans, but I would imagine he will do a good job for you. I had assumed he would go to a league 2 team.

One day I noticed that my 11 year olds hair looked very much like Ryan's, and I marched him down to the barber's the next day!

Only seen him in the cup for Cambridge in recent years, but he'll be a star at this level.

We very nearly signed him a few years back apparently but he chose to go to Cambridge and link up with Richard Money again. The correct decision for him as it turned out. One of the great what ifs the great minds on our forum like to ponder over

Donaldson I think is a good signing for us although he was woeful in his loan spell with us a few years ago.

Plymouth fans on their board seem to think he's a solid signing, and a mate of mine who supports Cambridge reckons he's quality so something must've changed since that loan.

Bigger signing for me today was Carl Magnay penning a new deal. We needed him to stay put.

Apparently a centre back due in this week from what I hear. Still need a quality left back and another keeper then I'll be more or less happy.

If Amond signs back on then I'll start to consider Hartlepool a possible thread. Donaldson and Munns are great signings and Magnay and Deverdics are also good players at this level. A question mark over Mr 90s hair but he's certainly signing decent players

Apart from Luke George.

Sign back on? He's contracted, unless someone offers decent money for him he won't be going anywhere.

Looking like a two horse race between Tranmere and Dagenham at this very early stage.

Dagenham massively going for it then, all or nothing for them this season you'd think.

Dagenham have significantly strengthened. So far, although it's early days, Rovers haven't. Aldershot have hung onto their key players so must also be contenders.

As with every summer, our fans are getting twitchy that we've not really strengthened yet - but most players aren't out of contract for another fortnight yet (and a lot of players are on holiday). Those that have strengthened are mostly from other non-league teams. I fancy Dagenham and Tranmere for the league, obviously, but it's way too early to say who's got a stronger squad for next season.

With regards to Barrow, unfortunately I think we'll struggle to replace the players that have departed (and are about to depart) with anything better.

You are probably right. Your team is still pretty strong though, but currently you are in the big group with realistic expectations of play offs rather than those chasing the title.
