I think 35 could be. It's beginning to look like a foregone conclusion.

I was going to go bit lower with the title but I didn't want to look silly ! I really can't see Daggers getting more than 10 from thier last 9 and York have a tough couple coming up

The quality in this league this year is crap. Bar the top 3 and maybe Bristol Rovers it's quite average. We had 42 points at this stage last year and only just stayed up, That's 15 points more than what the side in 23rd currently has! I can't see York getting to 40 either with the run in they've got.

Wimbledon, Plymouth, Orient, Wycombe, Pompey, Bristol Rovers and Accrington all still left.

Puts to bed the 50 points for safety theory ...We stopped up with 44 I think last year , then I thought that was a one off and we were lucky ... I did not expect to get around the same and survive again ....its like 2 get out of jail free cards we've had .....2 seasons in a row we've been awful for the first 30 games .... surely we can't do it three times

I think it's better than last year ....mind , last year was truly bad , we were the worst I've seen us in 30 odd years of watching ....We've played better this year , just not managed to get as many points ...

I actually think it may be worse. Bar Northampton & Oxford there is not a good team in this league. And there are some truly woeful ones.

2012-2013 were unusual and prior to that around 45 was the norm for safety so I think we are due a low points tally this year, could definitely be the lowest yet.
Points needed for safety :
2005 - 49
2006 - 37
2007 - 43
2008 - 38
2009 - 45
2010 - 48
2011 - 45
2012 - 52
2013 - 51
2014 - 42

2006/07 and 2008/09 were skewed by Boston's and Luton's points deductions so I'm pretty confident that this year will see the lowest number of points needed for safety yet.

Interesting. Another year for low points total was the year we went down, 2004/05. We got 40 but had 10 points deducted so finished on 30, and Kidderminster got 38, so only 39 were needed to stay up that season.

I think we're going to see a repeat of that year, in that something like 37/38 will be enough, and that's why I said on another thread that County, Morecambe (both on 40) and Yeovil on 38 are relatively safe already. Deffo think goal difference will play no part in deciding the final outcome.

But there's still the little matter of whether York could string a couple of back to back wins, in which case it would be quite entertaining for the neutral fan.

Agreed mate. We.ve lost more games already than we lost all of last season yet we're just outside the play offs.

These kind of arguments make no sense to me. If there is less difference between clubs then the points are shared amongst more clubs and therefore you will lose more games and still be closer to the playoffs. That the lowest two are that much lower than last year just means they are significantly weaker than the rest of the teams.

You could argue Northampton having 9 points more than any team at the same stage last year or that more teams have already got over 50 points than last year are signs the league as a whole is stronger, but it means bugger all other than the points lost lower down have been shared out higher up..

I apologise because we're a big reason for this thread being created. Not quite sure how we've managed to become so fucking atrocious to be honest.

The moral of the story is don't hire Wayne Burnett as your manager.

It's a shame what's happened to Daggers.Remember 3 seasons ago when we were both doing ok,we beat you 3-2 up here, but what a great match.
You had Elito,Hines & a decent forward,forget his name.You were a bloody good side.

It's a shame for any of the real fans when your club goes out of the league , but at least there is a route back , unlike the olden days ...I am beginning to wonder though , if all these 'newer' clubs with low crowds are simply not just simply slipping to thier natural level

Yes, I always wonder where we would be now if automatic relegation happened in the old days instead of the old pals act that used to ensure that the bottom club wasn't voted out by the other chairmen in favour of the non-leaguer...There was a very thick glass ceiling in those days for non-league clubs...

The quality this season is dire.

Few decent sides at Mansfield this season (we certainly aren't one of them) and apart from the top 5/6 everyone else is pretty lame.

It's no surprise the very best are running away with it and the worst are well, just terrible.
