Hello and welcome to the first Coventry City match thread of the year. This will be the the start of a successful season for us and should see us collect the League 1 and JPT double. Anything less and Tony Mowbray should be sacked, SISU have backed him fantastically this year that I'd be dissapointed with 2nd place.

It sees Wigan Athletic rocking up at The Ricoh and there could be a possibility that more than 200 away fans are coming down (I suppose rugby season doesn't start for a while yet).

My starting line up would be:

Anyone but Lee Burge

Anyone but Chris Stokes, Reda Johnson, Sam Ricketts, Aaron Phillips

Romain Vincelot

Anyone but John Fleck Anyone but Jim O'Brien

James Maddison

Conor Armstrong Gergios Samaras (if he signs in time)/Marcus Tudgay

I suspect we will win the game at least 3-0, our first team squad is probably a top 2/play offs Championship standard. Anything less than 3-0 with our squad I'd be dissapointed.

I suspect this thread will be very quiet from the Wigan side as they do not have a fan on here as far as I know but I look forward to having banter nonetheless.

I wish all supporters and fans afar reading this a successful season but don't be surprised if you're on the opposing end of a 4, or 5-0 beating this season, we really are too good for this poor league really.

PUSB!

We need to sign a striker. Think we will draw 1-1.

Yeah I've changed my mind. Wigan to win 3-1, we've got the best team in the league but performing poorly at the moment, will still win the league though by at least 10 points.

On paper a top side, but we've been awful in pre-season.

2-0 Cov. Armstrong double.
Fleck is an absolute poverty footballer, the only person who rates him is probably you because you have a connection with him - you're both ginger!!

Fancied a draw but now I'm not too sure. 1-0 to Wigan.

Wigan haven't had a good pre season it seems and the Wigan fans on Twitter say they'll be in for a poor season, some even suggesting relegation. That would be funny and interesting

As there are no Wigan fans, they're team is expected to be similar to the one from their last pre-season game which was this:

Right now I fancy this to be the team..

I think there may be a chance that Tudgay starts up front, with Armstrong behind, pushing Maddison a little wide instead of Lamieras.

That's pretty weak attacking wise, not many goals at all. Really need those four signings, and fast.

I'm certainly worried. The average height of our front 6 is about 5'7.

It's frustrating that we've not managed to sort our squad out for the start of the season, but I do trust Mowbray's judgement on bringing players in.

Pretty confident for tomorrow, and for the season. Not sure why, just got a gut feeling. Don't get all the blubbing about pre-season. Meaningless playground kickabouts.

We will win 2-1 tomorrow. Just had it confirmed that Preston Haskell is interested in the club again, he's fixed the game tomorrow with the Wigan people and will come public on Monday about his plans for the club. Impeccable source.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. Now I'm not going to get carried away but we were excellent. Ricketts and Johnson were solid and didn't give Grigg a sniff. A flexible formation that sometimes shaped up as 4-2-4 allowed us to counter and expose Wigan's slow back three.

Adam Armstrong ran wigan ragged today. Brilliant finishes as well. Maddison, Lameiras and Jim all looking sharp and Vincelot and Fleck breaking up the play well.

Wigan weren't particularly bad, we were just excellent.

Best team in the league beats a poor team, no surprise to me!

As I was at the game as a neutral on Saturday; I thought Coventry were decent going forward. Maddison and Armstrong linked up very well and the latter could of could 3 or 4 goals.
Was it Jim O'Brien on the left for Coventry? He was pacey as hell and did well to link up for the 1st goal, but I believe he needs to work more when returns from his injury (since he was forced to be subbed as went down holding his leg towards the end). He was good going forward, but failed to help his team out when Wigan pressed and seemed to boot of at his team-mates when he didn't receive the ball

As for Wigan, who was the number 6? Was it Max Power? What a moaning little git he was, always throwing his toys out of the pram. I didn't think Wigan were bad at all as they seen a lot of the ball. They just need a towering targetman and poacher. They had nothing in the box on Saturday.

Overall, I enjoyed the game + many thanks to guys who come up to say hello to me (spotted me in my Darlo shirt), then wished Darlington the best for the season & returning to our town.
