Early fishing trip for you Dave. Bit sad that you choose to troll at half 8 on a Sunday. Each to their own I suppose.

Negatives.

Vale outplayed us for 75% of the match
We never looked like we would score or even work the Vale keeper
Not sure 443 as a system will work.
The Alex turn out was poor, less yesterday than we had at home against Crawley, not sure what the reason/excuse for that is, think people may still be on a downer after the end to last season.

Positives.

We got a point
We have the best keeper in the league
They CB's looked solid.
Vale still can't beat us.
Going forward we can only get better, I hope.

I would have took a point before the game regardless of the performance.

75% :lol::lol:

Absolute fisting, travesty we didn't win. Not many will come away from Crewe without doing so.

We've improved the defence, the midfield, played some excellent football....but Page has made an absolute cock up of the forward line.

Dodds is not a Striker. AJLS ditto. They are both suited to playing in the hole, behind Ikpeazu and alongside him an actual goal poacher.

Fortunately we had a prospective forward watching with the Chairman, hopefully to sign in the next few days....

Moore looked good, as did Andoh. The idea of two out and out wingers taking the piss like in our promotion season is giving me a semi already.

Not seen ought about a new forward? Where you heard this? Would be good to get one in!

Big Norm was in the pub last night saying that a forward was watching from the stand yesterday.

I think we're a goalscorer short of being very good. If we sort that out we might win every game.

From yesterday's showing I'd agree, we're a goal scorer away from a very good side at this level. We got in too good positions but never threatened the goal a lot. Should be winning those games though. Crewe will struggle

I'm fairly sure it wont.

Ha, that's our ploy against your mob on Wednesday. Of course I meant 433, I was a bit rough yesterday morning, had to drink lots to forget only drawing at home with the Vale. They seem over the moon getting a point off us.

Just watched ' highlights ' on youtube. Didn,t realise at the time what a good chance Dodds had first half as i was half blinded by the sun and half asleep. Strange game with not many crunching tackles. Only one yellow in a derby said it all. Thought we were ok but reminded me of Walsall, nice play up to 18 yard box. Defensively we look miles better, can,t comment on Alnwick as he had nowt do, that said his kicking was gash !! Page said we didn,t draw enough last season so it,s clear he wants to tighten up a lot. Missed opportunity at end of day as Crewe weren,t at it. From Crewe's perspective the 2 lads at centre half had very good games , Guthrie hadn,t got a clue at left back but believe he a centre half anyway? . Just felt underwhelmed by the whole occasion but at least after 3 straight defeats we stopped the Crewe hoodoo !! On to this saturday against the League leaders and the return of ' barn door Williamson'.

Felt like a pre-season friendly in every aspect.

No atmosphere, no opposition and no urgency to score a goal.

I'm going to stick my neck out on the line here, Crewe will be down by March. I don't even think we're that good, but the gulf in class was huge. Usually Crewe have at least one player who stands out, but on Saturday they had nothing. Billy Bingham looked like he'd won a competition to play, there was absolutely zero threat from the strikers and a big donkey at the back who couldn't handle a lone striker in Uche.

We played some good stuff but for some reason our players have forgotten that they have to kick the ball a little bit harder than a standard 2 year old to beat a goalkeeper. Hard to assess our backline given they had absolutely nothing to do, but Remie Streete looks too good for this level and Purkiss was encouraging in his bursts forward.

Frustratingly, we seemed content to take a 0-0 midway through the second half. We should've made a triple substitution at that point - Moore, Dodds and Kelly off for Andoh, AJLS and Daniel. Instead, Page waited too long to unleash a fresh wave of attacking midfielders, and we paid the price by accepting a point - which we'll look back on with huge regret in a few weeks time when we see what other sides are doing to Crewe.

I'd imagine a wounded Scunthorpe will destroy Crewe next week, that's certainly where my money will be going. As for us, back under 2.5 goals every week because we're not going to concede or score many on that viewing.

I stopped reading after the bit about not being able to handle Uche. Enjoy your point......

I hope not, I'm looking forward to sending them down ourselves on April 9th.

you're definently going to be a massive threat with Donkey Uche and Ajay up front that's for sure..:bl:

we'll be both struggling come April.

JJ Hooper to sign today it seems, should hopefully answer our goal scoring worries if he can take it up to FL level.

The thing is though that we looked really good up until we got into shooting areas. With a decent marksman we'll be way away from struggling whereas Crewe didn't even get as far as shooting. I'd prefer to be creating chances rather than not and let's face it, we looked a miles better team on Saturday.

My last post on this thread - not spending my time engaging with deluded Crewe fans.

If you attended the game, you'll know the score. Unless Crewe sign three or four top quality players, they're going to go down. Unless Vale sign someone/find someone within who'll finish off the nice football we're going to play, we'll be a bottom 8 side rather than a top half side.

And if you can't see that then you know absolutely nothing about football.

I know the score, it was 0-0. That was vale giving it their best shot, after the club had urged a 'white wall' and all bad feelings of getting tuned over 3 on the spin by us plus you had bolstered your side with a load of ex Alex players who obviously wanted to try and get one over on us. Well Granty played well, Uche was a circus act, Byron did what Byron does, played well fo 45 minutes and then fizzled out (I am sure he will put another good 45 mins in, maybe in May), the others were not on long enough to prove anything. All this against an Alex defence that had one lad playing out of position, another kicking the ball for the first time (who had the circus act in his pocket), a brand new midfiled and a centre forward who has been half way around the world this summer and not had much of a pre season with us. Guess what, you manged a 0-0 draw against us, we will get better, we have to, but you have alrady peaked and still couldn't beat us. We still own you.

Looking back, honestly Crewe were extremely bad and it was definitely 2 points dropped. I've never seen a home team not threaten the goal once or at least attempt to do something going forward. That's the first Vale game I've been in years where I genuinely had no worry in us conceding.

Let's be honest you were shit, even your own fans admitted it. We will finish above Crewe, I'm quite confident of that

Blah, blah, blah. The first day is generally always a nervy affair and I don't feel like we have peaked at all. If one of our chances had gone in it could genuinely have been 3 or 4. I'd be very worried as a Crewe fan, whereas I feel with the addition of another forward we have the makings of a very good team. Your manager and most of your fans admitted that Vale were the better team and you were seriously lucky to get a point. On another day those shots go wide of your keeper rather than straight at him.

I didn't see any redeeming features of your new signings and in fact one of your new midfielders looked like he was a schoolboy invited to play with the bigger boys.

We'll see at the end of the season but I'd be amazed if you finished anywhere near us in the league.

same old story from last year, and we've still not lost to you lot in the last 4 games.

and you were right down there with us even with such an amazing squad, same as this year I suspect :ffs:

you all talk out of your arse. You weren't amazing on Saturday..far from it. We defended excellently and you lot couldn't hit a barn door.

We'll more than likely struggle as we always do but we always manage to pull it out of the bag.
