Great news for the fans. Must be on a fucking ludicrous wage.

I am sure there will be a release clause in there for if/when Real put a bid in. Say, £30 million if its Real, 60 if anyone else. This way, he has a massive contract (and signing on fee) for this year, then goes to Real next year when they pay the same amount as they were going to. This also stops him walking away for free and Man Utd getting nothing, so this works for both parties - assuming there is a deal like this in place.

He pulled a Rooney. Fair play to him, £200k a week for a keeper is nuts.

He was offered similar when we tried to renew in the first place.

Wonderful news. Real tried playing alpha with the biggest club in the world and now they look quite silly.
They are the biggest by far. You are peasants to them in the grand scale of things. Still expect him to be off next year the lure of Madrid will still be there for him but in the meantime he may as well grab as much dough as he can from there.

If United are paupers by comparison to Real I'd love to hear your opinion on where Liverpool stand next to the mighty Spanish behemoth!

Who cares how 'big' one club is, can tell this site is inhabited glory supporters.

Good bit of business by Manchester United though, will get a sizeable fee if he leaves and potentially will keep him for a long time, Real Madrid dropped a ball with their incompetence.

200k is crazy for a keeper. Van Gaal should be challenging for title, not 4th place, at this rate.

200k is a crazy wage to offer any player. Why does his position matter, though?

I was laughed at when I suggested he may sign a new deal, right thing to do even if he is going next season to ensure we command a good fee. Hopefully he starts tomorrow and goes on to have another great season, fantastic news.

Liverpool don't compare themselves with anybody. And certainly not constantly with Madrid unlike Manoo who have the staunch arrogance to even think they are on the same level as them.

Their record stands up as good as anyone in Europe. They don't have to bend the knee to no one matey.

De Gea signing a new contract makes it obvious what happened on the last day of the transfer window.

Madrid wanted De Gea but didn't want to pay for him, they had to look like they were making an effort to try and convince De Gea they were desperate to land him, so purposely didn't complete the deal and then tried to blame United to keep De Gea sweet. De Gea and Mendes backed by evidence from United have seen through it and a bumper new contract as been signed.
De Gea could still end up at Madrid but it won't be whilst Perez is there.

Actually speaking of that I wonder when the next election is for them. Perez isn't popular and perhaps someone fresh will appear and shake them up a bit. Perez reminds me of Blatter, all wind but no substance.

Liverpool and United fans compare themselves with each other on a daily basis.

Beyond being one of the most successful clubs in the world, Manchester United have proven yet again that they are a very well run business who know when to stand firm even when bigger clubs come calling. Kudos.
Real Madrid look like rookies in the transfer market on this one. Even PSG would do better!

I suppose if anyone at United deserves that much money it is Dea Ge considering he single-handedly (literally!!) got you guys 4th place. But its unusual to hear keepers earning a lot, Neuer and Courtois get around 150k and 120k respectively.

If Spain go and have a good Euros next summer, his value will rocket even further.

I'm glad De Gea is staying at United, at least for this season. I want the best players playing over here and he's in the top 3 goalkeepers in the world right now.
