Clough obviously doesn't want him that desperately. That is less than the previous offer. He's been told how much we want and should either FO or come up with the cash.

Personally i think selling to any play off rival would be utter lunacy.

If he wants him then just stump up the money what your asking for its pretty simple. Dont waste time putting shit offers in

how much is Doyle worth? I cant help but think he's just having a very good purple patch going off his previous stats. I've never seen him play so dont really have any idea

Wigan and Cardiff now in pole position. 500k isn't even half of what we'd accept in my eyes. £1.2-1.5 is about right.

Craig Eastmond released, possibly Jabo Ibehre and/or Dan Holman to follow.

Cardiff City are closing in on the signing of Chesterfield striker Eoin Doyle. #Cardiffcity #chesterfieldfc

think he's normally spot on, spending the money we gave them for Brayford

Think the ship has sailed for Sheff U - offering silly amounts and upping it by 50k each time is so Rotherham. Hardly a statement of intent that you guys really wanted him.

Thats what weve always done year after year then no one signs and all we hear is that the club tried its best. Personally im more than happy with mcnulty up front anyway clough will never play 2 up top so if doyle signed it would mean the end of mcnulty

Danny Wilson claims Barnsley's attempts to sign Pope are dead in the water as we haven't got back to them... we haven't received any offer nor had any mention of it in the four hours Smurthwaite was at Oakwell on Saturday but are furious abut publically saying all this just before a game.

That's probably about right for him to be honest. 26-years old, unproven above League 1 and only really consistently scored goals in the last 6 months.

Price seems fair to me given his age and past. Fair but I'm still surprised they didn't get more given some of the transfer fees chucked around now. Strikes me as a case of Chesterfield being backed into a bit of a corner the later in the window it got, especially if the player was eager to move.

That's actually a fairly standard transfer fee, people are only surprised because of the ludicrous transfer fees thrown around in other deals, nowadays.

Agreed, I think £750k is about right.

Only we could have the highest scorer in English football, still with a year and a half left on his contract, and let him go for that. He'd just bought a house here, his missus had just got a job here, and he'd just had his first kid here (my mother helped deliver it). There were no stories about him wanting to leave this very minute. Barring a horrible injury, we could've got 750k in the summer. Yet, when Cardiff, with their crazy owner, and money, make a half decent bid - We buckle.

It may seem petty to other sides, some didn't rate him - despite him scoring against most of you. However, we were told investment would be made if we averaged 7,000 gates, which we have - yet we've stayed with a threadbare squad. Add to this us selling Cooper at the start of the season for another 750k, yet he was unproven and had less than a year left on contract - So how does the Doyle fee add up?

They say they want to 'make a push', yet with moves like this, we'll always be seen as a go to club when any side with a bit of money go - 'Right, we need a decent player, but we don't wanna spend owt near a million, 'X' is doing alright at CFC..'

I'm pissed off, can't lie.

Maybe they've got a target replacement lined up and wanted to get it done quickly rather than wait until the last minute and not give themselves time to replace him?

It's an awful figure. Genuinely awful. We're off to midtable and below now. Where's the fucking ambition at this club?
