Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Your problem with John Ward is that he had never had a bad season before he came to us................he's never had a good season since he left us.

seems his luck has ran out and his style as a manager doesn't work anymore.

plus if you played 3-5-2 he never played that here, was usually 4-4-2.

Shrewsbury have been playing 3-5-2 like we have.

We've been playing in every formation known to man so far this season but very rarely in the same one for two games running.

Waiting for Keith Curle to be linked with this one seeing as he hasn't actually signed his new contract with us yet as far as I'm aware. Seems like it'd be a good step up for any League 2 manager as the club is obviously in a good position at the moment, seen Adam Murray linked already and more will be in the coming days I'm sure. Hopefully Curle goes under the radar for this one because it seems a good fit for him on first glance given how he's doing for us. Most of the names on the bookmakers' lists have failed pretty consistently yet seem to get another chance every time, can't imagine why your owners wouldn't want to dip into the league below or even two leagues below to try and find someone who's actually succeeding at the moment.

O'Driscoll is a decent manager when given a budget, not sure Walsall will offer that.

I do love him though

Edit: scrap this, I forgot about his spell with Bournemouth.

Who's that Doffer guy on your forum? Is he In the know?

No just an optimist reading into the odds and the fact Mansfield decided to make a statement.

I have to be honest, he's young yes - he's done a decent job at Mansfield, but I'd rather we kept it with someone who knows the team or is at least familiar with us. Not sure he's that man.

A shame Smith left before he could finish the job. Hope Walsall can still go up without him.

Lee Clark allegedly interested in the Walsall job, oh dear...

The amount of people I've seen regarding our vacancy exclaiming "I'd love Lee Clark", "Paul Ince is available, go and get him!", "Terry Butcher will have good contacts", "Paul Dickov would be good" etc, makes me almost wish for the inevitable internal appointment.

O'Driscoll's name being mentioned. Would be a fantastic appointment IMO.

Forget what he did with us, if he'd have been given more time he would have got it right, but it just seemed that he had a long term plan, but no short term one. His philosophies were pleasing, he played good football with some young players, but he just didn't have enough time on his hands to get it right.

Proven manager elsewhere, Doncaster, Bournemouth etc. Good man manager (see Jay Emmanuel-Thomas) and a fantastic coach.

Would be a good appointment.

Totally agree. Of the 'realistic' options he would be my first choice too. From what i've been reading he would tie in nicely with the on the deck passing football Smith instigated. Hes alledgedly said hes interested but no official enquiry. hmmm. He's also Wolverhampton based so the geography works well.

To be honest though I thoroughly expect that the board will just leave the 3 caretakers in charge to the end of the season which a lot of the fans wouldn't be too unhappy about. Saves Bonser a few quid too. Cutler, Ward and Whitney know the club inside out and have good credentials and I'm sure they would do a good job. Personally though, things feel vulnerable without a long term appointed manager so i'd like O'Driscoll to be given a shot asap.

Would be a punt I wouldn't mind. Youngish and enthusiastic.

Anyone who comes in will have flaws and is a 'risk' so why not.

Sean O'Driscoll down to 1/4.

Not surprised, he lives in Wolverhampton and has openly stated in the press that he is well up for the job.

Would be an excellent appointment for you, I'd be very happy to see you guys appoint SOD.
Just don't expect to get exciting press interviews etc, he's dour, doesn't like the press and he doesn't like answering too many questions.
Walsall develop some good youngsters and he's all about doing that, and every time we sold one he'd go and develop another.
Give SOD security over a few years, with a wide remit of coaching up and down the club, let him crack on with it and he will get you better off than he finds you. I'd be very confident of that.

New manager to be unveiled tomorrow then.

Almost certainly looks like S'OD; I wish him the very best, and with time he'll succeed with Walsall. The success he'll bring may not be immediate, as it took longer than expected for his policies and philosophies to get put into affect with us, but he'll build the club on good foundations.

O'Driscoll is a very good coach, and no doubt he'll have involvement with the youth structure as well, and with some of the players that have come through Walsall's ranks recently (Grigg, Deeney, Henry etc) I'd back him to continue that trend of bringing players through and giving them a chance in the first 11.

If it is O'Driscoll, I wish him and Walsall the very best, and hope to meet in a Championship fixture next season!

Sean O' Driscoll confirmed on an 18 month deal a few minutes ago.

Relatively happy with that, although not as happy as some. I know he's not a media darling and his recent record at all clubs is poor. However, he is experienced, develops players from a young age and plays a pure football philosophy, so that works with me - he should go hand in hand with us at the moment. Hopefully this means he has assurances from Bonser that the crown jewels won't be sold this month.
