Sad really, rather than owt else.

I'd be more happy about it if we weren't inevitably about to appoint Paul Hart or Guy Branston or something.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
the usual yearly Notts C change.

I am actually surprised you didn't try Abbott till end of season considering he has been a manager in L1 not long ago.

it is strange how Notts seem to do the same every season.....start well, collapse, look doomed, sack manager, revive, turn it about, survive, look good next season etc, etc

but you were going down way it was going, saying that is the constant change the reason for your constant cycle or is it abit like Carlisle more a behind scenes doing the damage.

Some saying Pressley has been spotted at Meadow Lane in recent weeks...

Make of that what you will.

I'm pretty sure they were set to stick with Derry through anything just to stop the cycle you mention and try and get some stability.

Then we win four games in five months and managed to break our record for home defeats in a season by March. They had no choice, our crowd on Tuesday for the Rochdale defeat was the lowest in seven years or something.

Still so grateful for what they did last season, though. Was one of the most astonishing achievements this league has seen in recent years IMO. That should be enough to get him another job and I really hope he does well at wherever it is.

At least you weren't stupid enough to leave Gregory in caretaker charge. He would have stringed together some results and wangled his way to the job permanently.

Worth it for Hayden White's decision to stick his oar in on Twitter. :box:

Gutted for Derry, I think the players have badly let him down.

I also think we have recruited terribly for pretty much 4 years and Derry was on the receiving end of some incredibly poor signings. I've not been sure for a while who has been doing the recruitment. I am not sure if it was Derry, Abbott, Rodwell - never really made sense or was clear. If it was Derry, he lives and dies by those signings unfortunately. He was able to get the best out of them at the start of the season, when we had some pace in the squad from Ismail. Soon as the pace went, our ability to just sit back and shithouse a 1 nil went.

The home form was abysmal, it just seemed to spiral and eventually the away form just dried up.

Not sure if we have a plan B - probably Hart. Not convinced that will do us much good

Assume Bish will want a 22 year old Ilkeston player as manager :sb:

Sad for Derry, can't help but feel like he might have had a better chance without Abbott. Hope he gets a chance elsewhere.

Pressley wouldn't surprise me, he does at least understand the league

Been a much more hostile reaction to this than I was expecting.

Hostile? Most of what I've seen has been like this thread, disappointing but ultimately the right decision

Look at Facebook and Twitter. That's basically my thinking, but there's a growing feeling that us being shit every year might actually be the board's fault, I think.

A new manager to release the Derry imposed shackles on Hayhurst, who will fire them to 14th.

Another manager goes after playing us, unsurprising considering how bad Notts County were on Saturday at Stadium:MK.

Any chance Alan Smith will be caretaker while Notts search for a new manager? He was doing some coaching whilst at MK Dons.

Surprised. I thought they'd stick with him even if they did go down and give them a chance to rebuild.

We probably would've done if our home and away records were reversed.

Bizzare to say the least... Hayden will always be welcome back at Brunton Park if life at Notts County hasn't worked out how he hoped.

Seemed like Shaun Derry was the stable leadership liked by the fans Notts had been crying out for, and he gave up his playing career at QPR to take over there, so it's a shame it ended this way for him.

As for Greg Abbott, the old knife will have to go back in the drawer, thought he was about to wield it against Derry's back, making sure he was shown the door instead of being given a chance to save the club is probably the smartest thing Notts County have ever done.

to be fair I've not looked at the Facebook page for a couple of years now, just total crap from 99% of the people who comment on it. Perhaps I'm just following the wrong (right?) people on Twitter.

Don't feel like giving anyone on the SkyBet odds a chance.

We sent him back or they recalled him or something. He was fucking terrible.

I think the timing, and the fact that Derry was actually well liked has lead to the backlash. People are also genuinely sick of seeing a manager sacked every year.

Thats one of my biggest gripes, but also i think that Derry will be a good manager. We have just signed too much toss

He was pretty good at League 2 level at least, I did think League 1 was a bit much of a step-up for him this season but Bolton seem to have this obsession with loaning him out then recalling him and trying to find a better club to loan him to. From what I gather he did well at Bury too in his short time there before injury, and they're a lot better than we are.

If they appoint Branston or Hart until the end of the season and we lose on Saturday then the reaction will be much, much worse than if Derry was still here.

God, we"ve still got the heeby-jeebies from when Hart was in charge. Same sort of position as County.

He did absolutely fuck all - apart stoking up fan hatred.

Quite an achievement in such a short spell.

Pressley was sat in the stand on his own like a fan rather than holding hands with the chairman, just the usual circling vulture move that all managers do when out of work.

It'll be Hart, Smith, Pilkington trio till the end of the season and then we need to be bold and poach someone or we'll continuously have this mess.

How anyone can think this is a bad decision is beyond me though. If anything the fans and board have given him longer than anyone else would and there's not even been Derry Out chants, he's been fortunate in terms of time and support.

We'll still get relegated.
