Best of luck to them, they're going to need all they can get, especially if he brings in Nolan.

The Sunderland fans aren't going to be as demanding as the West Ham fans. They know they'll be in a relegation fight this season and that Sam is probably the best man to get them out of it - the odd long ball or backs to the wall performance is par for the course.

Not too fussed about the style of football for the time being, anyway it can't be any worse than what we have been playing. The Kevin Nolan thing is a worry, can't abide him or his chicken dance.

Yeah, the chicken dance is just too much for anyone to accept really.

Tough start for Big Sam. Away to WBA and Everton and the home game with Sunderland. December looks pretty mean too.

This season Allardyce need to make them functional, solid defensively and hardworking up front, which I think he'll be able to do. There's not much creativity in the squad (I can only really see Jordi Gomez properly in that mould in their squad, nothing like he had at Bolton say) but I think he can get Sunderland a solid enough prospect that they'll be very difficult to beat. Cattermole and M'Vila will provide a solid core in midfield that's difficult to break down, and Defoe, Borini & Fletcher, at that level of the league, have the ability to nab enough goals to stay up.

Allardyce is a great appointment for Sunderland and should have the other teams in the relegation fight seriously worried

I'll wait and see just yet before I start panicking. Allardyce will surely improve Sunderland yes, but Sunderland are starting from a really low ebb from what I saw of them. Their current squad is not suited to his style of play, Defoe and Borini their best attacking players won't enjoy the balls coming over their shoulders. And Allardyce's record doesn't quite match the miracle worker hype IMHO.
