I agree with that. One if the bigger issues there is where clubs allocate the away seats. You can't situate disabled fans in the upper tears or in tight corners like many do. They have to be in an area that's safe to enter and exit.

I didn't know that happened. It's like disabled people are an afterthought. I appreciate that it's not always an easy undertaking to manage access etc, but that shouldn't mean clubs should just wash their hands of it or pay it lip service.

I don't think they do, I worded that poorly. I meant they can't situate the disabled fans with their support due to where they are often situated, so it's safer to group them in to a designated area.

I agree something should be done in that regard, it's a potential logistical nightmare though.

It's striking a balance between safety and needs. Although it's on a smaller scale than Premiership grounds I think how Chesterfield have planned things is quite good and obviously this comes with the benefit of building a ground in an age (2010) when disability is an important aspect that was considered.

The photo in this link I think demonstrates what Chesterfield got right.

Women and disabled people have their own football leagues don't they?

Why try and change our way of doing things?

What has women/women's football got to do with this? Similarly what has the existence of football for disabled people got to do with treating disabled people fairly at Premier League grounds?

Dafuq happened to this thread after the first post?

I guess part of the problem in terms of stadiums is that they were built ages ago when issues such as disabled access didn't even register. Still with all the money these clubs have they should be investing in doing more. It's good how United have raised areas for disabled supporters. More of that kind of thinking should be utilised.

The thing is, these guidelines have been in place for over 10 years now, so why are clubs not forced to bring their grounds into line? We see it further down the pyramid, where clubs are not allowed to be promoted, or even demoted from a League they are already in due to ground grading based on things like number of seats, size of refs changing rooms etc. so why are Premier League clubs not forced to bring their grounds up to standard in this area?

This article from 2014 says only 3 Premier League clubs at the time had the required number of disabled seats the guidelines say they should have. Given there are quite a few new grounds on there, built since those guidelines were released, thats pretty poor. Football is no different to any other form of entertainment, theatres and arenas are subject to the same rules, theatres in particular have a lot of very old venues, but they have just had to adapt them. There are no excuses why football grounds shouldnt have to do the same. In particular when it comes to lumping them all in together. We have segregated areas for home and away fans, so why should we only have one disabled area? Spurs and United in particular, they are right in front of the away fans. Dont know about any of you, but if I had a season at Spurs or United, I dont think Id want to be sat right in front of the opposition fans every single week.

Clubs playing in UEFA competitions will now be required to have disability access officers to assist on improving stadium facilities
